I jolted awake, previously being plagued by that horrible feeling that I was falling. My head whipped around, trying to gather my surroundings and to remember where I was. I sighed as I realized I was still in the car, and sunk back down in my seat.

I looked out the window, trying to get my thoughts away from my foster parents. I loved it there... Why did I have to leave? ...How would my new foster parents treat me...?

I sat in the leather seat of the car, drifting in and out of consciousness. Only after around thirty minutes did I begin to question to myself who the driver was. Was he my foster parent? If so, was he the only one who would be taking care of me?

As much as I wanted to speak up, I couldn't ask him who he was. I couldn't muster enough courage. I stayed quiet, hugging the picture as if it were my parents. 'Meredith, you need to calm down...' I told myself. Soon, I entered the dream world once again.

I was running. From what, I have no idea, but I was running. I stopped to catch my breath, almost doubled over. Heavy mechanical footsteps thundered behind me, and I realized far too late that they were getting closer. I kept running, looking around for anything to hide in or behind.

Suddenly, I was in a town square. I was running along the sidewalk of a cluster of shops, not knowing how close the thing was. But there was something strange about the place... I couldn't place it.

Then, I heard it again. The footsteps. They were much louder than before. I realized what was wrong about the square. It was silent. There was no one in the shops or on the street, but all of the lights were on, and many cars were parked. With a sudden jolt, I ran inside a shop next to where I was running. I didn't will myself to.

I was greeted by the smell of coffee. It must have been a coffee shop, as I saw menus displaying different drinks lining the walls. I ran to the back, hearing the footsteps, and found a large oak door. I ran inside, not looking before I did so.

It was strangely dark. All I could see was the outline of silvery cobwebs littering the walls. That was all. No door, no window... No escape.

The door swung closed, making me jump and wimper. I turned around, but I still couldn't see anything. But, I felt something. Pain. I screamed as I sunk to my knees, warm liquid running down my stomach. I gripped the knife protruding from my chest and slipped into unconsciousness.

I woke up screaming and in chains, bleeding heavily. I could see now, but even with light the pain blinded me. I made out the outline of a man, walking closer to me. Those footsteps that I had heard weren't there as he approached.

My screams became weaker and weaker as blood drained from my body. The man was right in front of my face, but I could make out only a few features. But the one that stood out most... His eyes. They were red. Blood red.

"Die." He said. And everything went black.
