Chapter 26
"Worthless child!"
Slash.
"Why weren't you a girl?!"
Cut.
"What have I done to you?!"
Scratch.
Nagisa covered his head, taking the pain his mother caused on his perfect skin. His eyes teared up. He had healed, but now he was damaged again.
"Get out of my sight!"
He stood up slowly, wincing in pain. "Yes, mother."
He limped his way into his room. His old room. He collapsed on the bed, letting his tears run freely. He knew that comfort and bliss wouldn't last long. He knew Karma would soon come to hate him.
He knew.
Nagisa hiccuped, sobbing uncontrollably into his pillow. Why was life so cruel? What did he do to deserve this? He didn't understand.
He lost track of time. He lost all sight of everything.
The more he was beat up, the more lifeless he got. He didn't come out for meals, he didn't go to school.
On countless occasions, he would fall in exhaustion.
Karma was confused as to why the blunette didn't come to school. He could visit, but he didn't really know if he was welcome. He didn't deserve Nagisa's friendship. But at the same time, he was scared that the reason he didn't come to school was that he was loosing his hope.
~~~
His mother scolded him, beat him. But he made no sound. He stopped talking after a while. His face was an emotionless mask. His eyes not bright and cheery, but dull and bleak.
After a while, he got used to it. The pain. The suffering. He could take his mother's beatings, and although they left ugly marks, he didn't feel a thing. He was numb with loss.
After a while, his mother had to force feed him. He was becoming scrawny and fainted every hour, becoming sick and puking up nothing but his own saliva. She didn't want to pay the bills for the hospital, so she called it quits until Nagisa actually looked a bit better.
One day, Nagisa went out for a walk. He didn't really know where he was going, but he found himself at a park. His dull eyes stared at the swing. His mind conjured a memory. A memory of him and his father.
His life was numb. His life was a disappointment. A tear streaked down his face. When had he started to cry?
He tore his eyes from the playground, continuing to stumble his way back home.
Home.
What was home?
What was a definition of home?
He didn't understand.
Not at all.
~~~
It had been 2 week's.
2 week's that Nagisa had been gone. Koro-sensei was in a panic, continuously wanting to go to his house. Karma managed to subdue him, but Karasuma had the same idea.
"I'm going to see him," He announced after their PE lesson. Karma held up his hand, but Karasuma didn't wait for him to speak.
"I gave him 1 week and his been gone 2. What's going on with him?"
No one understood but Karma. "H-he's just recovering, don't worry!"
Karasuma didn't look convinced, and to be honest, Karma wasn't either.
The two were curious, but Karma had a feeling that Nagisa wouldn't want Karasuma and Koro-sensei to know about his private life.
"I'll visit him soon. Once I do that, you guy can too. Just wait until I say so."
Karasuma raised a brow. "And when exactly do you plan to go?"
Karma stared him down. "By the end of this week."
~~~
"Oh, Nagisa, you're home," he heard his mother say from the kitchen. Nagisa didn't make a sound, he only moved closer to his mother's voice.
"Nagisa?" His mom saw him by the doorway. He looked down at his feet.
"Mom. How did dad die?" He croaked out. He hadn't used his voice for a week and a half.
His mother dropped the plate she was holding in the sink. "N-Nagisa... how did you find...?" He lifted his face, an emotionless look burning her skin.
"How?"
She stared for a second. Her eyes narrowed. "Don't talk to me with that tone of voice."
"I asked you. How?"
She gritted her teeth.
"Useless child!"
She threw the plate in that was previously in her hand. In a matter of seconds, the plate crashed into the blunette skull, causing him to fall back. He yelped slightly, connected with the ground with a wheeze.
He felt a stream of blood pour from his head, the shards of glass surrounding him.
"Clean up this instant! It's all your fault!"
His mother stormed out.
After a moment of silence, he picked himself up, wincing at the head injury. He wobbled to his room, grabbing a cloth and sticking it under cold water.
He grabbed his head, hissing as he applied pressure.
Once he had finished cleaning, he stared at himself. Where was his old self? What happened?
"It's all your fault!" He remembered his mother scream.
She was right.
