Was I about to kiss Lucy?
Was I about to kiss Lucy?
The words repeated in my head as my eyes jumped from Lucy to Jonathan.
Lucy was looking at me with a blush prominent on her cheeks, and Jonathan was starring at us with his mouth hanging open and eyes wide.
This situation isn’t awkward.
Note the sarcasm.
But before I could make some sarcastic remark about the situation Lucy had darted out of the room, and through the glass doors.
Where is she going?
I slowly stood up ignoring Jonathan’s frozen figure, and jogging out of the doors, following Lucy.
That’s when I saw Lucy.
She was squatted down beside a very distraught Melissa, brushing her hair, which was plastered to her face from the tears, out of her face.
I watched as she whispered words that seemed to calm her down, before picking her small frame up and turning around to face me.
I couldn’t help but smile at how caring she was toward this little girl she had just only met.
She blushed when her eyes met me turning her head to the ground hand swiftly walking past me.
Following behind her, until we got the glass doors, she struggled with it before I leaned in front of her, pulling the door open.
She walked in, leading the way into the kitchen where she sat Melisa down on the counter, as I grabbed a first aid kit from one of the cabinets.
She gave me a grateful smile, opening the medium size box, and examining the contents.
“Okay this is gonna hurt a bit.” Her voice was smooth and calm and Melisa shook her head as to signal that it was okay followed by a sniffle. “I want you to squeeze my hand, okay?”
“Okay” Mel’s voice was barely audible, as I pushed myself up on the counter beside her rubbing her back.
Lucy looked up at me, catching my eye long enough for me to flash her a cocky smile causing her attention to avert back to Melissa.
She ripped open an alcohol pad, dabbing it over her cut as she flinched at the stinging sensation. When she had finished cleaning it with the pad the pushed it and its wrapper to the side, grabbing some ointment and lightly spreading it over the wounded area, I couldn’t help but admire how gentle she was with her.
“Okay time for the band aid.” Lucy said smiling at Mel while grabbing a large band aid from the kit and opening it.
She stuck the band aid on, rubbing down the edges. “Better?” She said looking at the little girl in front of her hopefully.
“I guess.” She sniffled, and I jumped off the counter, but leaning against it facing her.
“Ice cream?” Her entire demeanor changed, her eyes widened and her face began to glow, “Well let’s go then!” I grabbed her hand to assist her while she jumped of the counter. “The Maserati!” I called after her and Jonathan as they ran out of the kitchen heading to the door.
Right as I was walking through the threshold of the kitchen I turned to see Lucy cleaning up the first aid kit. I walked back to her slowly, grabbing her hand to capture her attention.
“Hey, you’re coming right?” I asked pulling her closer as she stiffened.
“ I- I d-don’t want t-to int-trude on family time.” She stuttered not looking at my face, but the floor.
