Chapter 9 - Shock and Denial

       Darkness still surrounds the world around her, she's trapped inside this dark hell. From the right, she sees pitch black. On the left; nothing. She also feels nothing, she cannot even feel the weight of her chestplate on her chest, or the wounds she has sustained during the battle against the night. She suspends in the black air, hopeless, senseless, helpless. In the darkest corner of her eye, a flash of white light grows exponentially, it blinds her in blank space...then she feels herself again.

      She opens her eyes and realized she was lying down on her bed, curtains closed. She removes the blanket to see how her thigh is; bandaged up, and feels fine. Cassie gets out of bed, she stands up and puts pressure on her thigh, no significant pain, just a pinch. The door swings open and Katerena enters her bedroom, she was surprised to see Cassie standing after her injuries.

     "Where's Edwin?", Cassie questions.

     Katerena was silent for a moment, she bites her lip and says, "Well...Cass, he didn't make it."

     Cassie was speechless, she remembered the zombies piling around him, a tear rolls down her eye.

    "Cass...", Katerena says, trying to comfort her.

    Cassie sobs quietly, she lost one of her closest friends aside from Shane and her, drop by drop, the stream of sadness comes down her eyes like a waterfall.

    Cassie stops letting out her tears and questions "Where is he now?"

    "He's being buried where we spawned; near the swamp."

    "Okay...", she sniffs.

     Cassie and Katerena travel to the resting place of Edwin; the same swamp they spawned in. There, friends and other townsfolks gather around the grave of Edwin, dressed in black. From there, the crew; Dan, Lizzie, Stampy, Sparklez, and Stacy sit in the front row, facing the casket of Edwin. Other guests that Cassie notices are Vengelfie, Kevin, and the entire Shadow Operations group, all formally dressed. Cassie goes up to the crew and sits down in their reserved seats. They all look at her, as she sniffs.

      "We are so sorry for your loss." , Stacy whispers.

      "If you need any hugs, Stampy Cat is here for you 24/7.", Stampy quietly said. Followed by someone in the back, calling back his name.

      "Oh...sorry....", he apologizes.

     The priest of the service gives out his speech in the background. Cassie looks to the right to see rows of other friends and co-workers of Edwin, sitting silently facing towards the front. However, there was no sign of Shane in any of the seats. Cassie looks back and looks down at her night black dress.

       Kevin nudges over behind Cassie, "I think it's almost time to give your speech. Do you have one?"

     "I have one in mind.", she replies.

     The priest finishes his personal speech and prayers, he then requests Cassie and Katerena to give their speeches before the burial session. Katerena and Cassie hold back their tears to give a speech before the burial. The afternoon sun sets high as the two make it up to the stage. Cassie wipes her eye and prepares to give out her speech.

    "Edwin, was a very close friend of ours, even saying that he was a brother of a different family. He was a courageous, brave, strong, but also a compassionate member of the group. From our first time meeting underground, to our adventures together high above the clouds, to bedrock bottom, he was the torch that lights up the world around me.", Cassie says, grasping on the podium, her eyes watery. "Even in the darkest hours, he lights up it to make it through. Even if the torch dies out, his light still burns through our minds and our hearts."
