A/N: Inspiration on the southeastern forest in Orchswal, the morning version :D
***
Few minutes had passed and Zoe kept wandering around the subdivision, holding nothing but the small paper bag containing the glue.
"That heartless maggot! I can't believe he even took my donuts! But good thing I used an old bag. Well, there's nothing there but a rope and—" her jaw dropped. "My limited edition shurikens!"
Out of frustration, she started strangling the lamp post, "That damn maggot! And now I'm lost in this damn subdivision!"
Her attention was lured by the structure at the end of the road. She squinted her eyes at the abandoned mansion, its once elegant gate was now crawling with dead poison ivy. She thought it was a perfect place to shoot a horror film.
After releasing her rage, she let go of the poor lamp post and started tracking back her steps, then something else caught her attention.
"What's wrong with this street?" she mumbled with a raised brow.
Due to the lamp posts' reflection on the asphalt, the area became brighter than usual. However, now that she looked around, she discovered that all the houses were empty. There was no single light or any sign of life.
She felt the night breeze danced around her, whipping her long hair into a gentle wave. The chill welcomed itself beneath her clothes and dark thoughts crawled their way in. She decided to walk away from here, each step faster than the other.
BANG! CLANG!
She halted.
The sound of rolling metal trash bin echoed from her back, getting louder and louder with every second. Her heart raced like never before. She clenched her only weapon, the small bottle of glue, and whirled around.
There was nothing. Just an empty trash bin. She sighed. There was another loud bang when two figures fell from the roof. Zoe's breath stopped in her throat as she watched the two wrestled each other. That was when she realized that one of the figures was a human while the other was a huge black wolf.
Zoe looked around in panic and remembered her weapon at hand. She aimed and threw, but missed.
"Damn it!"
She removed her Timberland boots and let it sail across the air, and to her luck, it hit the wolf with a satisfying thud. The creature stopped and growled at her, its opponent now lying motionless on the ground.
"N-nice puppy!" Zoe cooed.
The wolf just bared its teeth and slowly walked towards her, a deep guttural sound resonated from it. A clicking sound accompanied its every step, as its long claws hit the asphalt, each contact gave her goosebumps. Her mind was racing, she just witnessed a murder scene and now she was next. Unfortunately, she hadn't read any survival tips when one meet the big bad wolf. As the creature stepped closer into the light, Zoe regretted looking.
It had the same form as a wolf, but its fur had turned into rotting meat oozing with black liquid. And where its eyes should be was replaced by a deep horizontal cut. Even though it had no eyes, Zoe could still feel its cold stares piercing through her.
Then it leaped to attack.
Zoe ran and limped because of the uneven footing. She wanted to stop, yell for a timeout, and just crawl into a ball while crying, but that would definitely kill her.
Never had she fathom of dying this way. She always dreamed of dying of old age while holding hands with the man she loved, and together, they would watch the vast open sea and clear blue sky and depart this world. Peacefully. But now, she was going to die as wolf meal.
