Chapter 4
"Go away Logan, I'm not in the mood" I sighed, wincing when the shards of glass made their presence known embedded in my skin. Shaking it off, I stood up and packed my stuffed wolf and my Heffalump plush.
Logan banged on the window, hard enough to break it. "Dammit Logan I said cut it out!" No sooner had I said those words then Logan came crashing through the window. What is this kid’s problem? I mentally ranted.
Crouched down, Logan stared up at me looking more feral dog than human. "Hmmph" Turning my back to him, I walked into my bathroom to pack all my toiletries. "Grace, there is glass and blood running down your leg. Stop being such a bitch and let me help you"
The sound of a smack echoed in the bathroom. Logan held the red handprint on his face. I turned on my heel and walked away. That will teach him to call me a bitch. I screamed at the sudden pressure on the glass that coated the back of my legs. Logan was knelt on the ground with a towel and tweezers. "Get on the bed before I drag you there myself" He growled, no sign of joking visible on his face.
A tiny part of me liked the sound of that. Logan took the horrified expression on my face as confirmation. Gently but firmly, he lifted my body against his, making sure to keep my bloody legs away from his body. I couldn't help blushing and gulping. Who else wouldn't be nervous with the feel of a sexy, though annoying, male body pressed against theirs?
He looked down, staring directly into my eyes. After standing there for a moment, I huffed. "Are you going to put me down anytime soon?" He nuzzled his nose into my neck. "Never" He whispered, running a line with his nose up to my ear.
The door crashed open, making both of us jump. I fell out of his arms and onto the bed with a plop. "What are you two- Grace you're bleeding!" The pressure from the bed caused the glass to nip even deeper into my skin. My mom looked horrified as she stared at the mess I had made. Logan turned my body onto my front with one hand.
My mom silently took the tweezers and towel from him. "Go sit next to her and hold her hand" My mom demanded, pushing him towards me. "I don't-" My mom cut me off. "You made a mess, and now you need to deal with the consequences. Mr. and Mrs. Wolff already left, which is why Logan was sent to collect you. You are making terrible first impressions, and I'm surprised they still are going to let you live with them." I was shocked into silence.
Logan sat next to the bed and held my hand. I was grateful for that when my mom started pulling the glass out of my skin. Every time I winced, Logan would lightly squeeze my hand. Though I didn't look up, I could feel his gaze on my face. He gently rubbed my arm with his hand when he heard me whimper. Why is he being so nice? My brows furrowed. "Don’t give yourself frown lines love" He gently ran his finger down the side of my face.
I buried my head in the pillow, ashamed that I had liked his touch. Knock it off grace, I scolded myself. You're only hurting yourself. "All done" My mom stood up, and with a cheerful smile, held her arms out for me. "I love you Gracie, don't ever doubt it. This is for your own good. You can come visit whenever you want baby." Her face fell for a second. "I guess it's a good thing all your siblings are sleeping..." She trailed off; clearly hurt by the fact I had not gotten off the bed to hug her. I stood up. "Don’t speak to me again." With that, I turned to Logan. "Can we go now?"
-OoOoOOOOooo-
After all my luggage was packed in Logan’s black jeep, I turned to say goodbye to the home I had barely lived in. With a sigh, I slouched into the passenger side. "All set?" Logan asked, starting up the car with unnecessary enthusiasm. I just grunted, staring out the window.
"Um, hello, I asked you a question" I ignored him again, surprised at the anger in his voice. Jolted back, I coughed out a gasp when he slammed on the gas. After about five minutes of silence, he pulled over the car and unbuckled his seatbelt. I remained silent, never taking my eyes off the window. Logan undid my seatbelt. Finally I turned to him. "Log-" His eyes had turned dark red. Before I could blink, he pulled me off my seat and on his lap.
"Logan!" I shrieked, squirming on his lap. He roughly pulled my chin so I was staring him in the eyes. "You never answered me. I asked you a question. You've been a bitch since I met you. I'm trying my hardest to not hurt you, but frankly your attitude is pissing me off. Just because you have to live in my house doesn't mean you have to hate me..." he trailed off, his eyes slowly turning a stormy grey.
He frowned, slowly wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me closer. Afraid he was going to kiss me, I cuddled against his muscled chest. Inexplicably, I didn't like him sad. I didn't mean to hurt him, but for some reason he rubbed me the wrong way. I felt him rest his chin on the top of my head, sighing. I nuzzled closer, hearing his erratic heartbeat. Slowly, I felt his hand, soft a whisper, slide up the back of my shirt. I tensed, pulling away. He pouted, looking more like a disappointed Teddy bear than a fierce 18 year old.
Giggling, I slid back into my seat, rebuckling the seat belt. He started the car without so much as a glance in my direction. "Logan-" I started, but he cut me off. "You know what, that never happened. Forget it. We," he pointed to us with a disgusted look on his face, "are never going to happen." Shocked, I stared at him. "Excuse me? You're the one who pulled me into your lap! I despise you! I can't believe you're acting like I jumped you! You're such a-" He left the car, slamming the door.
I sat there, too upset and confused to realize we had arrived. "Gah!" I screamed, slamming the door as well. Stalking into the house, I couldn't help but to admire the size of the house. Two stories, brick with ivy, and frosted glass, I could tell the Wolff family was financially stable.
"Welcome home," Mrs. Wolff startled me as I gawked at their house. "You have a beautiful home..." I trailed off, impressed by the sheer beauty of the interior of their house. It was beautifully decorated, mixing modern with a cozy home feel. "Il show you your room while Joseph and Logan get your bags." She called down to me, already halfway up the stairs.
I followed her up, admiring the sheer beauty of the ivory winding staircase. Along the walls seemed to be millions of family portraits, all of good-looking people. "And this is your room" she pushed open the last wooden door in the hallway. My jaw dropped. White walls with baby blue trim, matching blue curtains, a bay window in the east side of the room, a giant king sized bed with white pillows and a white feather comforter, and a white vanity, the room seemed to be made for royalty.
"Do you like it?" She broke the stunned silence, looking uncertain with my response. "You can change anything you want..." she trailed off. "I love it!" I threw myself at her, wrapping my arms around her body. She chuckled and petted my hair. "Dinner’s at six. You can take a nap if you want, you've had a long day." she looked down at me with pity in her eyes. "Thank you" I whispered, crawling towards the massive bed. As I snuggled into its luxurious warmth, I felt the day’s events weigh down on me. I fell into a deep sleep.
