Chapter Seven: First Love...
After meeting Francine for the first time, Sandra instantly disappeared in the kitchen where Robert was cooking beef stew with a side of freshly picked rice from the market. She did not want to be near Francine. Sandra could not handle the large amount of cockiness, stuck up and uptight behavior any longer.
Sandra's sat on the wooden stool, kicking her legs out and licking on a honey covered spoon as if she was a child once again. Robert didn't mind if the young lady sat in the kitchen, he was actually glad; but for a man with no words, he did not say how happy he was to finally be provided with company. Evelyn would stop by to check on him from time to time, but it wasn't enough to entertain the old cook.
Like before, Evelyn walks in the kitchen to check on Robert and also Sandra. "Lass, why aren't you with Doc?"
Sandra removed the spoon full of honey away from her tongue and into to the wash bucket. "I did not want to disturb him with his daughter."
Evelyn immediately started to laugh, even Robert shared his laughter; but instantly went back to being quiet and to himself. "Oh lass, you would not disturb. Francine always knew how to grab the attention in the room."
"Francine is very intimidating," Sandra stated while fiddling with her fingers. "She's also confident and...a little uptight as well."
Evelyn smile dropped into a deep frown, "Is that why you're avoiding her, Sandra? There is not reason to be afraid-"
"I'm not afraid!" Sandra raised her head to mainly prove her point. "I just do not want to surround myself with..."
"With a cold hearted devil," For the very first time, Sandra heard Robert say more than two words in one sentence. Giving off his deep Scottish accent and grunt voice, Robert spoke harshly about Francine as if he did not care if Doc heard him or not.
"Robert," Evelyn stopped him before he can say any more. "That is enough."
Shaking his head while mumbling Gaelic under his breath, Robert went back to chopping up more vegetables and potatoes for the stew. Evelyn looked towards the young lady who looked at Robert with shock and amazement as if he said his first words. "Francine can be...how can I say this...hard on others."
"Tuilleadh mar shàthadh feadhainn eile ann an cridheeachin..." Robert spat in his native language. Showing Sandra that he was not big fan of Francine's existence with his kitchen knife waving in the air as if he was a madman.
"Calm yourself, old chap." Evelyn rolled her eyes and sighed in frustration.
Robert once again grumbled under his breath and went back to the chopped ingredients. Sandra gave Evelyn a questionable look, "What did he say?"
Evelyn shook her head and waved her hand to dismiss the subject, "Nothing, just foolishness. Bitter foolishness." The older woman sent a glare towards the back of Robert's head.
Sandra lets go of the subject as well by carefully hopping off the tall stool and standing to her feet. "I-I do not favor others who is hard on others and very stuck up. So, I am just going to stay out of the clear until Francine is gone."
"That is a wonderful idea," Alex slowly walked into the kitchen, making Sandra and even Evelyn jump lightly from his sudden arrival. "My sister as well, does not favor you Sandra."
Sandra sighed in disappointment, knowing she did not to make Francine hate her. However, she started not to care of what Francine thinks about her. "That solves it. Both of us will steer clear of each other."
Alex stepped further into the kitchen so he can stand by Evelyn on the other side of the table. "Not likely, Francine will be here for quite a long time. Francine is not the type to pester you about her feelings towards you, she will be at bay. Unless.." Alex soon stopped his short speech.
