Chapter Eight: Once a Friend, now an Enemy...
Descending up the stairs after speaking with the handsome man in such late hours, Sandra could not help but smile with glee. The blanket around her arms and breast did not help the chill going up her spine at the moment as she tried to contain her uplifting attitude. Her soft hands clenched the thick wool blanket as her foot touched the last step.
However, her journey up the steps was short lived when a certain blonde fellow blocked her way as he had a sudden urge to explore the home as well. "Alex, my apologies." Sandra spoke up while quickly moving to the side, but did not dare to take the first step to leave his presence.
Alex stared down at the beautiful young lady in confusion. Sandra's effulgent smile was not unnoticed by the handsome young lad as he took a step down until he was out of her site. Although, thinking he saw enough beauty for the night, Alex knocked into his older sister.
"Watch where you are going, you fool." Francine spat as if Alex done wrong.
"Watch your temper, sister. You do not want to go against father's wishes." Alex, always the one to be calm and collective in situations such as this one, stated while eyeing his older sister.
Francine did not protest in the manner, instead she lets this go by brushing her younger brother to the side. However, was not successful in making her way upstairs. Alex grabbed her arm not so hard, but not so gently as he pulled her back towards him. "Unhand me, Alex."
"Why are you upset?" said Alex, with his brows arched in confusion to see his sister actually showing any type of emotion instead of anger. Hurt...was all over her face at the moment, which was new; even to the beautiful blonde standing in front of him.
Francine snatched her arm out of her brother&sister grasp before opening her mouth to speak, "Why do you care?"
"Even though you are highly annoying, you are still my blood, and if I can not care for my blood; how am I supposed to care for anyone else?" Alex questioned.
Francine immediately gave in from his burning stares and wise talking. "Rejection is a hard thing to forget, brother. If not anything else I tell you, remember that; because some day, you will be rejected and your heart will be broken." After sharing her source of wisdom, Francine descended upstairs like she wanted to do in the first place.
Alex, however, no longer had the idea of exploring the warm home; instead he had other notions in mind. Alex dragged his feet into the sitting room to see his fellow shipmate and also friend pacing the room. "Do not tell me, you feel guilty for brushing off my sister." Alex sighed before opening up his mouth again. "I am very proud of you in not falling for that temptation ole chap."
Anton did not give his fellow friend a single glance as he kept pacing back in forth with worry in his mind. "The temptation is the least of my worries."
"Least, huh?." said Alex as he walked further into the room to take a sit on the arm rest in front of a pacing Anton. "What have you done this time?"
"It is not what I've done... What I am about to say, I can not say it; I do not want you to be stuck between me and your sister."
Alex shrugged his shoulders before saying, "You are my brother, Anton. Either way, I will be stuck in between because both of you are apart of my family. Now, spit it out; we do not have all night."
