I thought about my mother and Prim, Gale and the games...

The games, they were being held this month. Reaping was in a while. I'm one of the lucky few who are under-aged and not fit for the games, but next year. Next year I would worry. Big time.

But that was next year, this is now, this is a decision that could change my life forever...

I take a deep sigh.

"Peeta, I will run away with you." I say reaching for his hand.

I hold it tightly and and whisper, "Together?"

He nods, "Together."

We smile and I check to see if anybody's looking. Nobody.

I wait to hear the buzz of electricity and hear nothing.

"Let's go." I whisper.

He carefully crawls through the fence and I follow.

This will be an adventure. I'm glad I get to spend it all with Peeta.

I've made up my mind, I like him. But much more than friends. Much more...

"Hungry?" I ask, grabbing my hidden bow and arrows from a hallow tree trunk.

Peeta replies with a laugh, "Starving."

I laugh and tell him to try to be quiet as I try and catch our dinner.

Peeta is useless. Clomp, crunch, stomp. He's louder than thunder!

I spot something. It's big, and it looks full of meat. I lick my lips.

It's a deer. My first all year.

I shoot and I get it straight in the lung. I run over and I start to skin it.

"That's disgusting!" laughs Peeta.

"This is how we're going to stay alive." I laugh.

He catches my eye and smiles, I return the smile.

We roast the deer and enjoy some parts of it. It was massive.

"I didn't think it would be, but this tastes awesome." he says.

"I totally agree." I reply.

We finish up I live the rest for another day.

"Peeta, it's getting really dark." I say looking up at the sky.

He looks up too.

"I agree, we should probably get to sleep soon." he says.

I bit my lip.

I haven't really thought it through. I guess we would have to sleep on the floor. Or a tree or something.

"Peeta, any good at climbing trees?" I ask smirking.

"You look mischievous, what are you up to?" he laughs smirking at me.

I laugh, I search for a sturdy tree and spot a big sturdy one near our campfire.

I start to attempt to climb this tree. Peeta looks at me funny.

"How the heck do you expect me to do that?" he laughs.

.

I turn to smirk at him.

"Just try!" I say smiling.

It's official, I only smile in two positions in my life, when I'm the woods, and when I'm with Peeta. Only then can I smile.

When the two are combined, I'm having the time of life...

The day I met him, Peeta MellarkWhere stories live. Discover now
