Emily – Alternate
My cooking class was going really well. Honestly, I'd say it was money well spent if you were to listen to Brody and Ian. I figured though that teenage boys would say anything was good. Of course, they had been exposed to fine dining over the years, so they probably did know what was good and what wasn't. Either way, I took the compliments they gave and kept cooking.
Given everything going on in Charlottesville, we decided to spend my birthday there. Mom was a little sad we weren't going to come up for my birthday, but I asked for a quiet night with Brody. I wanted to have time with just him so I could confide my fears over the fact that I'd still not found anything in our area, but that the demons seemed to be very happy up in the DC area since we weren't there any more. I wasn't sure if we should go visit for a weekend and kill all we could, or if they just needed to find other demon hunters.
From what Brody told me, because he could sense my worry, we were just supposed to worry about where we lived, unless a group came to us and asked for help. I felt bad about that, honestly. I wanted to be a help to people, but if they didn't ask, I couldn't.
"Doll, will you please stop worrying?" Brody pushed some of my hair behind my ear. "You're going to start jumping at shadows."
"You're right," I settled back against him. We were watching a movie in the entertainment room. Ian was out with some of his teammates, and I was enjoying the fact I was alone with Brody.
"Hey, tomorrow, the lacrosse team is scrimmaging against the soccer team. Will you come watch us?"
"Still think I'm your good luck charm?" I snuggled closer.
"Always," he tipped my head so he could kiss me. Even after a year, we're not very good at actually watching movies if we're alone.
The next morning, I walked out to the stands with Brody. He got his traditional good luck kiss, then joined the lacrosse team. I watched as some of his teammates seemed to be giving him a hard time, probably about the kiss. I heard a couple of them tell him how hot his girlfriend was, and I turned so I could roll my eyes. I was pretty sure I heard Sean say something about me being his sister, and not wanting to hear that. I sat down near a really pretty girl who was also alone. I wondered if she was out there to watch her boyfriend, and which team he was on. Since there was time before the scrimmage started, I glanced around at the team. All of them looked perfectly normal.
"Who are you here watching?" the girl finally asked. She had dark brown hair and blue eyes. I judged her to be a bit shorter than me.
"Who am I not here to watch?' I grinned. "The goalie for the soccer team is one of my best friends, and a roommate," I pointed over at Ian. "My brothers, number eight and number fifteen play for the lacrosse team, and my boyfriend is number eleven on the lacrosse team."
"Wow, you know everyone," the girl blushed. "I'm not really here for anyone. My roommate talked me into coming out with her to watch her boyfriend. He plays soccer."
I looked at the girl a bit closer and saw that her aura had sparkles in it. Not a lot, but they were there. She was what Damien called a halfsie. She was part fairy on one side, but I wasn't going to pry, she'd have known. She probably had me figured out, but I wasn't going to bring it up. If she did, great.
Another guy walked out toward the field and caught my attention. His aura was grey with the black streaks, just like Damien's. He walked over to talk to Ian, and I managed to get his attention. I gave Ian a look asking why he didn't tell me, because I figured Ian could smell him. He shrugged, and honestly seemed not to know what I was talking about. Just then the guy turned and looked at me, and seemed to be rather scared. I smiled and shook my head. I could also see in his aura that he was a good guy, and hated his heritage. I didn't want to go down there, but I also wanted to reassure him my dagger would not be coming out.
