After two days I had recovered from whatever illness I had. Today I was getting back into my routine and going to school. While I was waiting at the bus stop I was playing on my phone when someone very annoying rang.
"Whaaaaaat?"
"You know how I said I'd pick you up this afternoon..."
"Don't tell me."
"I'm sorry"
"Erhhhhhhhhhhh, can't I get a ride home from a friend?"
"No, you're on the bus; you're just going to have to suck it up."
'Jerk.'
"Excuse me?" His voice was harsh.
'Did I say that out loud?!'
"U-uh... sorry, I-I didn't mean to..."
"You'll be punished when I get home missy. Don't get into any more trouble, got it?"
"Yes Nathan..." I whimpered
"Good." And that was that; he hung up. 'How could I be so stupid and careless?!' I thought to myself as I stepped onto the bus, flashing my school bus pass to the driver and finding my seat at the back. I leant against the window and watched as the bus began to roll forward. 'I so have to be more careful'
When the bus stopped to pick up more kids, Scarlet walked onto the bus. She pretty much ran up to me and hugged me."You're back!" she exclaimed.
"Yeah, now let go I can't breathe" I laughed, Scarlet letting go giggling. But it wasn't long until I fell back into the headspace of 'I'm in deep shit when Nathan gets home'. Scarlet obviously just had to pick up on it.
"Nathan mad?"
"Uh... yeah..."
"What happened? Is he just being grumpy or...?"
"I um... said something out loud without realizing..."
"What did you say?" She replied slowly
"I um... I called him a jerk..."
"Why the hell would you call him a jerk?! Of course he's mad" She whisper-shouted.
"It was an accident..." I replied quietly. I felt really bad and am already dreading going home.
"It doesn't matter Alysha! You know what he's like, and I bet he's going to ask mum if he can get off work early because of this!" I knew that all too well and I really should have been more careful with my big mouth. Nathan normally gets home at six but sometimes he gets off early if I'm in trouble.
I'm getting punished because of my stupidity. And to top all that off, I'm going to have heaps of work to catch up on. And I still have school tomorrow. Why can't it just be Friday? High school sucks. But, Easter is coming up which means spring break is right around the corner! So that will be good... sort of. It means things going back to what it was like before school. Then again, it can be fun and there's no homework or getting up early which is good. I'm so conflicted about this! Sigh.
For the rest of the trip to school it was quiet. I stared into space looking out the window while Scarlet sat next to me in silence, glancing at me worriedly a few times. Once we reached school we both walked off and went to our usual spot. Skylar met us there a few minutes later.
"Alysha! You're back!" She said excitedly puling me into a hug. I smiled a little, returning the hug. Pulling away she spoke again, "I'm so glad you're okay"
"Yeah, I don't know what was wrong but all better" I said, forcing a smile this time. I needed to act like everything was fine, otherwise questions would be asked.
"You don't seem okay though, something bothering you?"
"N-no, why would you think that?"
She didn't buy it. "Come on Alysha, something's wrong. Maybe I can help?"
I sighed before replying. She saw straight through me, there's no point in denying it anymore. "No, there's nothing you can do. Besides, I can handle it. I'll be fine."
"There has to be something I can do, just tell me what's happened."
"Sky, there is nothing you can do."
"Why not?"
"Because you just can't." I started shaking. 'Why am I so panicky?'
"Just tell me what's happened."
"I had a fight with Nathan okay. Just leave it." I was almost about to snap. She just needs to drop it, but of course, she doesn't.
"What was it about?"
"I said something I shouldn't have, okay, can you just drop it please?"
"Just apologise and do something nice for him, I'm sure he'll understand."
"It's not that simple Sky." Scarlet sighed.
"Why not?"
"It just isn't okay! Just drop it!" I said, voice raised. My eyes started to water and my breathing picked up. I was getting worked up and panicking when I didn't need to. I had to calm down, I needed space. I ran towards the bathrooms and went into one of the stalls. With shaky hands I reached into my pocket to get my phone. There was only one way that I could calm down.
