A Visit from the Police

I woke up on the couch and groaned when I moved. I was achy all over. This my friends is why you sleep in a bed! I sat up and looked to my right, Nathan was still fast asleep. I looked to the TV and it was still on. We must've fallen asleep during the movie. I stood up being careful to not wake Nath, turned the TV off and made my way upstairs for a shower. The hot water will hopefully soothe my aching body.

By the time I was out, dressed and my hair was brushed I found Nathan walking out of his room half asleep. He was lazily dressed in dark track pants and a grey hoodie. I took this opportunity to creep up behind him, taser his sides and say good morning. He jumped and turned around with an unamused expression. But this didn't stop me from falling into a fit of laughter. Nath scratched my neck, leaving a red mark and walked off. This stopped me laughing. Vampires don't do well in the mornings and considering my situation I really shouldn't have done that. Probably just made things worse for myself but I really don't care. It was only a bit of fun and it's not like he can do much right now. We have to sort out our 'story' in case the Police turn up on the doorstep; and if they do they can't see any marks on me – so hopefully the scratch mark fades soon.

I had just sat down at the table when Nathan spoke up. "Two things: first, don't taser me again, whether it was a bit of fun or not. Secondly, we need to talk about what we are going to do with this whole mess of your teacher knowing our secret. She has probably already told the principal and the police have most likely already been contacted. They could turn up today. We need to figure something out fast."

"I did have an idea" I said quietly

"And?"

"Instead of getting your friend to heal them, I could just say that I used to self-harm. That's believable right?"

"Yeah, but if they ask why?"

"Uh... haven't figured that out yet. I didn't even think about it." I ate some cereal as Nathan took a seat across from me with his tea. Then I had another idea. Food helps. "What if I said I self-harmed after I 'lost' my parents. I mean that is what you came up with for the story of why I'm living with you."

"That could work. And the 'real relationship' we have is a mix between a brother, best friend and a... father figure I guess even of you are just my 'cousin'. It's messed up but kind of the truth right?"

"Yeah I guess. It makes sense to, like you are my 'parental guardian' so 'father figure' and we act like best friends and it feels like that when I'm not in trouble. And I do see you like an older, protective brother in a way – just very messed up."

"Really?"

"Yeah..." My voice fell quiet and I looked at my empty cereal bowl embarrassed. I don't know why I just felt like that.

I saw Nathan smile from in the corner of my eye and stand up. He walked over to me and gave me a hug. I returned it and smiled. "You're cute, you know that."

"Not cute, fabububbles!"

"Hahaha okay you're fabububbles, that better?" Nath laughed and I nodded giggling. That's when the doorbell rang. Nath froze and I paled.
"It will be okay, just stick to the story yeah?" I nodded and Nathan went to answer the door.

I whimpered and got up to put my dishwasher in the sink. That's when I noticed the fang marks. I felt sick. I ran upstairs and grabbed my pink hoodie with red roses on it. It was one of my favourites. Rose was my middle name so that is why I like it so much, even though I used to hate the name when I was little, but now I love it.

I walked back downstairs to see Nathan talking to two Police officers in the dining room. I thought like I'd act completely clueless as to why they are here. "Nath, what's going on?"
