I spent the rest of the day with Jay, showing him around the school, trying to stifle my laughter when he made jokes about Amanda and the teachers and generally having a good time. I cannot remember the last time I had this much fun. It nearly made me forget about everything that happened yesterday...
"Scarlett!..... Scarlett!..... SCARLETT!". Jay was calling me. I looked at him and then saw that Mrs Revel was glaring at me. I must have been daydreaming again!
"I'm sorry Mrs Revel. Could you please repeat the question?". She scowled at me and said, in her usual grumpy voice "What is the square root of 2587?". I frantically tried to work out the answer but I was terrible at maths. Just as I was about to say that I didn't know the answer, Jay nudged me with his elbow and I looked down. He had written the answer on a piece of paper for me. He seriously is a life saver. So I read it out and Mrs Revel was extremely surprised to see that I actually gave her the correct answer. Once she had turned her back to us, I smiled gratefully at Jay, "Thanks,".
After what felt like hours the bell rang to mark the end of school, finally! As we started to pack our stuff away Jay looked at me and asked "Do you want to do something with me, now that school has finished? Like go to the park or come back to my place?". As soon as he asked to hang out for even longer, the butterflies appeared in my stomach again. Why did I feel this way around him?
"Sure" I said, trying to keep my cool and not freak out in front of him. So we left the school and headed towards the park.

Jay's POV
I was so glad I had found a friend, especially one as kind as Scarlett, and on my first day! I was so happy, but I tried to keep my cool so she wouldn't think I was weird or anything. She is also very pretty, she'd never go for someone like me though. She's too perfect and way out of my league. Oh well, at least I have her for a friend.
Once we got to the local park we sat down under a big oak tree and talked and talked and talked. We talked about anything and everything. She wanted to know about my hair and I wanted to know about her eyes. But when I asked she seemed sensitive about the topic, so I told her not to worry about telling me. It was all going great until she asked me: "Jay, what's your biggest secret?". As soon as she asked that question I froze. What was I supposed to say? The biggest secret I have can never be told to anyone. If I was to tell her I would be putting my whole family in danger. I gulped, not knowing how to answer her. "Ugh, I don't really have any secrets." I said, knowing that she wasn't going to believe me but it was worth a shot.
"That's nonsense Jay! Everyone has secrets. Don't worry you can tell me.". She smiled at me. She looked so trustworthy, how could I say no? But no! I cannot risk my family's safety. If I was to tell her she probably wouldn't believe me anyway, I mean who even believes in fairies in this world except for little kids? She'd probably think I'm mad and then ran away from me. I looked at her. She seemed so eager to know. I can trust her, right?
"Ok," I said, taking a deep breath. "If I tell you you have to promise not to tell anyone and you have to promise to not freak out.".
"I promise, Jay, just tell me!"
"Alright. My biggest secret is..."
