(I'm extremely sorry about not updating. I kept procrastinating this chapter, plus I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do for this chapter. I will start to update this story more often though. Oh, Asgore and Toriel are still going to be together in this story because it will help me with having the story make sense. Just thought I'd tell you.)
Frisk slowly blinked open their hazel eyes, and immediately started scratching the inside of their right wrist. It had been twenty years since the soulmate serum was first invented, and within that time it had been distributed to humans as well as monsters all around the world. Frisk was fifteen, turning sixteen in two days and would find out who their soulmate was. The closer they got to their birthday, the more the black smudge seemed to itch. Frisk looked down at the mark, they could already see some of the letters of their soulmates name, that was a natural thing that happened. But something confused Frisk about their mark; for most people, if the name was long, the writing would just be smaller so it fit on the wrist in a straight line...but it seemed different for Frisk. Right where it was supposed to be was a small 'C-H' on Frisks wrist, that's all they could see of the name so far...but, underneath it was a small 'A'. Frisk didn't know what to think of this, and they wouldn't ask someone about it. Frisk may know the assistant of the creator of the serum, but they wouldn't ask; they didn't want to be labeled as a freak, just like the people who didn't have soulmates were.
Many people asked about Frisks mark, wanting to know what the first few letters of their soulmates name was...Frisk didn't show them. They knew Frisk wasn't a blank, thanks to photos and when they were fine with showing people, since the letters weren't showing. Frisk had shown one person the letters, Sans. Sans was the one Frisk could trust the most. He was able to calm Frisk down a bit, telling them it was fine and that he'd be there for them (as well as telling them a few bad puns, but that doesn't matter).
Frisk slowly climbed out of bed, running their fingers through their hair and throwing a sweater on over their tank top. They made their way out of their room and down the stairs towards the kitchen for breakfast. On the way there, they passed the living room, where they saw Sans with his usual shit-eating grin watching the news. Frisk paused, before plopping down on the couch next to him. The story on the news was about the murderer 'Flowey'.
"...In most recent news, the mass murderer, dubbed the name Flowey by the public, has struck once again. The victim was killed at midnight, right when they had turned sixteen. They were killed from a knife to the throat and died almost immediately, their soulmate died right after. The infamous buttercup flowers were laid around the body, as with Flowey's other murders. The victim lived on Waterfall avenue..."
"Waterfall? That's the next street over," Frisk heard Sans mumbling under his breath. The skeleton ran a hand over his skull, sighed, and turned to Frisk.
"How 'bout you go ask Papyrus if he's done with breakfast? You have to get to school soon," Sans said, chuckling. Frisk nodded, stood up, and started walking towards the kitchen again.
"He probably made spaghetti again!" Sans called after them, causing Frisk to smile and chuckle.Frisk padded into the kitchen, their auburn hair bouncing with each step. They poked their head into the kitchen to see Papyrus setting breakfast onto plates, which was indeed spaghetti. Frisk crinkled their nose, but didn't say anything, instead offering to help bring the plates out.
"THANK YOU, HUMAN!!" Papyrus exclaimed before his eyes narrowed. "AT LEAST YOU'RE NOT AS LAZY AS MY BROTHER!" Frisk heard a small chuckle from the living room and smiled. Frisk brought out two plates, while Papyrus carried the last. Sans was already at the dining table when Frisk and Papyrus exited the kitchen. Frisk handed one of the plates to Sans, before sitting at the table with the other. Papyrus sat across from them. After a few minutes of eating the somewhat edible spaghetti in silence, the younger of the skeleton brothers spoke up.
"SO, HUMAN, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY IN TWO DAYS!! ARE YOU EXCITED TO FIND OUT WHO YOUR SOULMATE IS?!?!" Papyrus exclaimed excitedly. Frisk frowned slightly.
"I guess, I'm not exactly sure," Frisk mumbled. Sans glanced at them out of the corner of his eyes.
"Bit nervous, eh kiddo? Don't worry, kid, it'll be fine. Maybe you already know 'em," Sans said. Frisk smiled, and nodded.
"Yeah, you're right." Sans chuckled.
"Now how 'bout you get ready, and off to school ya go!" He said, and Frisk left before Papyrus could complain about them not finishing 'breakfast'.Around ten minutes later, Frisk was out the door, walking to school. They often got there about twenty minutes early, it gave them enough time to talk to their best friend, Asriel. They didn't have any classes together, so the only times they could talk at school was in the morning or at lunch. Frisk met the goat monster out by the front gate of the school, where he greeted them with a smile.
"Howdy there, Frisk! How are you today?" He asked with a wave. Frisk couldn't stop their eyes from drifting towards his wrist, covered by his sweater. Asriel was a few months older than Frisk, meaning he already knows who his soulmate is...but he hasn't told anyone. Some people choose to keep the information private, for the sake of their soulmate, but a lot of people believe that Asriel is a blank. He has no proof to show that he isn't, and him not showing anyone his wrist doesn't help. This causes him to be teased a lot, Frisk always helps him through it. Even though the two of them have been friends for years, Asriel had never shown Frisk the name, Frisk saw the mark but not the name. Frisk respected his privacy though.Frisk must have been staring at his wrist for too long, for he brought his other hand to his wrist and grabbed it, chuckling nervously.
"Oh, yeah! I forgot that your birthday is coming up soon! Looking forward to finding your soulmate?" Asriel asked politely. Frisk shrugged.
"I guess. I'm a bit nervous, but whatever. I guess it's now or never," Frisk sighed. Asriel frowned a bit before shaking his head.
"You never really cared about finding out the name of your soulmate like other kids." Frisk shrugged again.
"It's cool and all, but why rush it? We're gonna be told who our soulmate is whether we like it or not," Frisk mumbled. Asriel looked at them for a bit before sighing and walking towards the entrance to the school.
"Come on, Frisk! We can go help out the teachers or somethin'!"***
Frisk stared out the window of history class. It was the last class of the day, and it hadn't been very eventful. The only interesting thing that happened was that the mayors new scientist came into school today, as what happened with every Friday. Alphys was always able to make the class interesting and fun, plus Frisk was friends with her which made it all the more better. Alphys, was the assistant of the creator of the soulmate serum, but she is now the main scientist because of an...accident that occurred with the first royal scientist.
"...officers suspect that 'Flowey' is a blank or hates the idea of soulmates, and that's why they only kill people once that person turns sixteen. They also suspect that Flowey may somehow be getting information on the birthdays of people."
Frisks eyes widened as they focused back into the conversation their history class was having. They hadn't heard that idea, nor had they realized that Flowey's only victims were newly aged sixteen year olds. The teacher turned to Frisk just at that moment.
"Your birthday is coming up soon, right? I'd be careful if I were you. You never know what might happen." Frisk nodded nervously before slipping further into their seat, trying to hide themselves from the stares of their classmates.***
The walk after school was stressful for Frisk. They were going over to Asriel's house for the first time. The two had been friends for years, but Frisk had always found the thought somewhat intimidating considering that Asriel was related to the mayor; so they normally went to Frisks house. But Asriel had invited Frisk to his house, saying how his parents aren't intimidating at all and that he wanted Frisk to meet his parents. That was making the walk really stressful, but Frisk was also still thinking about their upcoming birthday and Flowey. This wasn't helping anything. The goat monster kept looking at Frisk nervously before he finally spoke up.
"If you don't want to come over, you don't have to! Don't do something you're uncomfortable with!" Frisk shook their head.
"Nah, I've just been stressed lately. I'm really looking forward to meeting your parents in person!" Asriel smiled sheepishly.
"Yeah, I talk about you a lot, they'll probably embarrass me," Asriel sighed, while Frisk giggled. They walked a few moments in silence before Asriel stopped.
"Welp, here we are!" The goat monster exclaimed. Frisk looked up...the place was huge! Frisk swallowed nervously and held their wrist where the soulmate mark was. They didn't know why they were so nervous, maybe the fact that that's the place the original royal scientist worked, maybe the fact that Alphys will be there as well and without Undyne or Sans to keep her busy from asking about Frisks soulmate mark, or maybe it's just the fact that Frisk will be meeting the mayor and his wife. Who knows! Asriel smiled at Frisk and grabbed their hand.
"Come on! Let's go!"
