⇝ Chapter Fourteen

"We're meeting the king and queen right now?" you ask incredulously. "I didn't even get a chance to purposely avoid this."

Jane laughs. "Frigga is really nice, (Y/N). Odin on the other hand is tougher, but he's still nice. You have nothing to worry about."

"You're already on first-name basis with them," you say with clear frustration. "Meeting new people, royalty nonetheless, is so hard for me. Can you knock me out now?"

"No," Jane says, "this won't last very long anyway. Just stand in the back and don't talk."

"That's easy for you to say, they already like you. Thor told me that their mother took an immediate fondness toward you. You know what I went through and I've never had to do anything like this," you stress.

You remember Thor telling you that he had told Jane about your life when she asked, which you didn't mind because it was easier for him to tell her than for you to say it yourself.

Jane stops and you halt as well. "It will be okay. Loki will be there and I'll be there and so will Thor. You're not alone this time."

You sigh and nonchalantly wipe your sweaty palms on your dress before continuing walking toward two huge doors with intricate carvings like the rest of the palace. There are warriors lining the walls and two of them open the doors and your heart couldn't be beating faster.

The hand-maids go to either side of the open doors as you and Jane walk into the room that has gone silent. Thor and Loki are standing in front of Odin's throne where Frigga is also standing by his chair, until she sees Jane.

"Jane!" she says happily, carefully rushing down the steps and across the shiny flooring.

The guards close the doors, leaving only the six of you in the huge and incredibly intimidating room. Frigga engulfs Jane in a hug like she already knows Jane will be her daughter-in-law in no time.

You could see Thor's features in Frigga and you nervously stand next to the two while playing with your hands and attempting to steady your breathing.

Frigga steps back and looks you up and down, not in a judging manner, just in interest.

"And who are you?" she questions politely.

"I'm (Y-Y/N), ma'am. It's a pleasure to meet you," you stutter.

"What business does another Midgardian have here?" she questions.

"I'm an Avenger and was asked to accompany Thor and Loki," you answer.

"By whose request?"

"Mine," Loki speaks up, suddenly appearing by your side and resting a hand on your lower back. "I hope you do not mind, Mother."

Frigga looks confused and simply accepts her adopted son's words. You take note that Loki called her 'Mother', so it's safe to say he has no resentment toward her. Frigga walks back over to her husband's throne as Loki stands in front of you and leans down so his lips brush against your ear.

"This will only take a minute. I can hear your heartbeat from across the room. Take deep breaths and we will go for a walk afterwards, okay?" he whispers so only you can hear.

You give a curt nod and he brings his hand up to brush your hair back and lay a tender kiss to the side of your head before going back over to Thor's side. Frigga looks shocked at the gesture and Odin is now the confused one. Frigga leans down and she and Odin have a hushed conversation.

You breathe a little easier and calm yourself after Loki's words that manage to calm your intense anxiety. Simply knowing he understands how your brain is making you feel and treating it seriously calms your nerves.

"Loki, we acknowledge your actions in helping to save Midgard and your new status as an Avenger alongside Thor. We have seen that you have changed for the better and have decided to lift your banishment from Asgard and officially reinstate you as a prince," Odin's voice echoes through the area.

Jane smiles and you let yourself grin. Finally you see Loki getting positive recognition and acceptance back with his family. Even if he denies that they are, you can tell he cares for all of them.

Odin says a few words to Thor and the brothers bow. Loki finally turns around and he has that natural scowl still plastered on, but you can see the relief in his gaze. Thor, as usual, is smiling like an idiot.

"Congratulations, brother," Thor says, slapping Loki on the back as the four of you begin exiting the Throne Room.

"You do not congratulate someone on being accepted back into a realm, idiot," Loki says, unconsciously putting an arm across your shoulders.

You glance back before the large doors close to see Frigga smiling at you for an unknown reason. You let it go and continue forward with the towering Gods.

"But it is good that everything is back to as it should be," Thor argues, holding Jane's hand instead of Mjolnir for a change.

"Yes, because the amount of tension in that room was completely normal," Loki replies sarcastically.

Thor and Loki bicker for a while longer as you and Jane laugh at their brotherly love. It's obvious to anyone that nothing has truly changed between the two of them and you know Loki secretly enjoys being with his sibling again.

"I'm taking (Y/N) to the gardens. We will see you at dinner," Loki says, taking your hand and turning down a different corridor.

You wave at Thor and Jane and prepare yourself to finally get some alone time with Loki.
