"Something happened, that's all." You reassured him while hiding your brace behind your back.
"What?" Phil asked from the couch. He stretched to peer around the corner and caught sight of your wrist brace.
"What exactly happened?" Dan asked and took a step toward you.
Your automatic response was to back up into the living room while keeping your back against the wall. Dan followed you with a cup in hand and you bit your lip as you looked over at Phil who remained seated. After a few more steps Dan stood in front of you and you stood in front of the wall.
"Can you please sit down?" Your voice almost came out as a squeak. Fingers from the braced hand touched the wall behind you.
"Let me see," Dan insisted. He was about to reach out to you.
"Dan," Phil called from the couch, momentarily halting Dan in his action. "You should sit down. She won't talk until we're both seated. It's something she did with us at home." Phil's eyebrows furrowed in concern.
A pause. "Alright." Dan agreed and went to sit on the couch next to Phil. His eyes never drifted from your hidden wrist to your eyes.
You sighed. "An overzealous person, I don't know, just grabbed my hand at the signing. It wasn't that bad, but the manager insisted that I wear the brace."
"Did they mean harm or were they an obsessed fan?" Phil asked.
Before you could reply, Dan interrupted. "Shouldn't you put a hold on the rest of your signings? In case they're following you around." His knuckles around his mug were white. "We could hold off your interview as well."
You quirked an eyebrow at him before turning your attention to Phil. "I think they were obsessed. They claimed that their name was the same as a character in my book." Then you turned to Dan. "I understand that you're concerned, and I'm just as shocked as you are, but I don't think putting things on hold would do any good for the time being."
"But you don't know what they're capable of." Dan insisted.
"Security will be upped at future signings and they won't allow in that person." You rubbed your brace. "If they do something again then I'll consider holding off on everything."
"I agree with Y/N on this one." Phil chimed in. "I trust her judgment. So far it feels similar to a freak accident."
Dan huffed. "Alright. Just be on your guard."
You went over to him and placed your hand on his head. When he looked up at you, you ruffled his hair. "You know, you're being more protective than my actual brother."
His cheeks flushed a cotton candy pink as he looked away. "Phil's brother instincts are just rubbing off on me."
"Hey, that makes me sound like a mother hen." Phil chuckled.

A/N: Thank you for over 1k reads! I also appreciate how people have been commenting and adding this story to their public reading lists. I'll be traveling for the next two weeks so I won't be able to update while I'm abroad. Travel prep also accounted for this short chapter :'( But I'll be writing in my journal whenever I have spare time so I'll only need to type it up when I get back :) See you all again soon!
