"I think we can leave the picture alone for now," you said as you nestled closer to Dan. The laptop on your legs shifted as you did so. "After everything I think it'll be good for us to just relax."
"I agree," Dan replied as he interlooped one hand with yours while the other remained on his laptop. "Also I really like how we're both enjoying each other's companies while browsing the Internet."
You nodded. "It's a lazy Sunday." You turned to look at him. "Hey Dan?"
He took one last look at his screen before focusing his attention on you.
"I want to stay here in England with you."
A pause. He blinked.
A slow smile spread on Dan's lips and he kissed you. "I'm really glad to hear that Y/N." His gaze grew soft with concern. "But are you sure? You can take more time to think about it. It's a big decision."
You simply smiled back at him. "I've been missing England anyway. And there's now a certain someone whose presence makes me feel like I'm at home."
He lightly squeezed your hand. "I'm at home when I'm with you." The sound of his stomach grumble penetrated the bubble between you two and Dan laughed. "That's my cue to get cereal. Do you want any?"
"Yes please."
The mattress shifted as he stood up.
"Wait Dan," you called out as he reached his bedroom door. "I'm about to book tickets to go back to America to gather the rest of my things and whatnot. Would you like to come with?"
"Of course."
------
"Did you get there alright?" Phil's sleepy digital voice sounded from your phone.
You leaned back onto the couch that belonged to your apartment living room in America. "Yeah, everything's going well." You heard the flush of the toilet down the hall. "The things with Suzy are getting sorted out, yeah?"
"Yeah, she's standing trial tomorrow. Your lawyer said it's likely that she's going to be sent to an institution." A pause. "Are you sure you don't want to know where she came from?"
"I'm sure. I don't want to be aware of her delusions; it's just a one time incident and that's that."
"I'm glad that you're not letting this bring you down."
You smiled; it was almost possible to feel Phil's warmth across the phone. "I get my optimism from my bro."
Phil laughed.
"I'm getting tired so I'll talk to you when I get back. See you soon."
"See you."
You hung up the phone and connected it to the charger. The screen glowed and read that it had about twenty percent left. You sighed as you lied down onto the couch and stretched.
"Should I call for takeout?" Dan asked as he returned to the living room. "I've been admiring your abode since we got here but I think food comes first."
"Yes please." You pulled out a menu from a stack of papers on the coffee table in front of you. "Is Chinese okay? I'll give you a mini tour in a bit."
"One of my fav," Dan replied.
You smiled in gratitude as he ordered. Your eyes traced Dan's outline as the sunset seeped through the window blinds and highlighted his frame. Only the sounds of his voice and the hum of the refrigerator filled the air. He smiled at you when he hung up and caught you staring.
"Checking me out?" He winked at you.
"The better question is, when am I not?" You got up from the couch and stretched once more. You pointed at the painting above the couch while Dan looped his arm around your waist. "This is an abstract painting that I bought off of my friend back in uni. I bought it to convince him that his paintings were worth selling."
"Does he still paint today?" He placed his chin on top of your head.
"Yeah, he's actually a full time artist now. What do you see in the shapes, by the way?"
A pause. "I see how wholesome of a person you are."
You squeezed his hand. "Thanks, I try." You pulled him to the kitchen table and pointed at a small green succulent. "This is CAM; it's named after the type of photosynthesis it does."
Dan chuckled. "Clever name. I see you also like to hoard plants in your home." He leaned forward to stroke one of the leaves. "Oh, thank god it's fake. I would've felt bad if you felt it here while you went to England."
"Please, unlike Phil, I am a responsible plant owner." You pulled him into the bedroom and stopped at the foot of your bed. The (your favorite color) comforter sat nearly over the mattress. You ran a hand across the comforter. "Can you get in it?"
"Uh, sure," Dan sounded unsure.
You smiled as you nudged him to lie down. You followed him underneath the comforter and lied on your side. You placed your hand on his cheek. "And this is the amazing view I'll have tomorrow morning."
He tucked your hair behind your ear and kissed your cheek. "Very romantic." He kissed your nose. "I'll be your view and you'll be my view."
You giggled as he planted another kiss on your neck. You moved closer to him and looped your arms around him, enveloping him in a hug. His breath tickled your ear and his fingertips traced your spine.
"Dan?"
"Hm?" His reply came out more like a satisfied hum.
"Let's stay like this for a while."
