Best Friend's Brother

"You're still coming over tonight, right?" Dani runs up to me as we walk to our last class of the day

I nod my head "Of course! I'll be sure to bring some snacks before coming over" Dani claps her hands. "Yas girl, make sure to bring the cheetos"

"Don't worry, it's number one on my list" I wink

We walk into chemistry and take our seats at our assigned table. "By the way, Shawn is going to be home tonight" She grunts at the mention of her brother.

"It's cool"

Dani rolls her eyes. "It's not. For me anyways. He always likes to bother us whenever you're over"

Shawn is Dani's twin brother. He is....unique..in many ways. Recently, he's been home a lot after coming back from his tour. He is what every other brother is like: annoying as fuck. Dani never really likes it when he hangs out with us because he always tries to flirt with me.

I had this huge crush on him freshmen year and when I found out he was Dani's brother, the crush kind of stopped. The crush still sits in the back of my mind but I could never tell Dani about my feelings for her brother; it could ruin our friendship..and I don't want to risk that.

"Cheetos..check. Oreos...check. Sour patch kids..." I roll my cart towards the candy section to grab my last item on my list.

I tuck away my list when my cart crashes against someone else's. "Sorry.." I mumble. My eyes meet a familiar brown ones and my heart drops.

"Shawn" I whisper

Shawn smirks down at me. "Hey Y/N, didn't expect to see you here"

"Me too" I answer

He looks in my cart and smiles back up at me. "Hanging out with Dani today huh?" I nod my head. My face heats up and my heart thumps whenever he's this close in proximity to me. I can't help it.

"Mind if I hang around" He asks innocently

"uhhh..I don't think Dani will like that"

He steps closer to me, a foot between us now. "But you wouldn't mind? Would you?"

My cheeks started heating up as he steps closer to me. "N-No" Shawn's smile grows, I don't even know if that's possible.

"I like you, Y/N" He confesses

My heart jumps for joy but my head is screaming no. This is wrong, he can't say those words. It's going to mess with my head, my heart and my decisions.

"S-Shawn, you know we can't"

"I know you like me Y/N. The way you act around me, the way you look at me" My cheeks feel even hotter. "You're different Y/N and I really like that. Please give me a chance" He takes both of my hands and looks into my eyes, pleading.

I squeeze his hands, looking at the bit of hope in his eyes but I shake my head. "I want to say yes, I really do Shawn"

"Then say yes—"

"I like you. I've always liked you" This makes Shawn smile, causing me to smile back. "But we can't. Dani is my best friend and I can't betray our friendship like this, I'm sorry"

Shawn's smile fades but he keeps his face firm and nods his head. "It's okay, I get it" Hurt and disappointment clear in his eyes but vanish in a second.

My heart aches and longs for this boy. All I could think about is Dani. I can't betray her like this.

Shawn turns away and takes his cart with him. I remain standing in the same aisle, processing everything.

I close my eyes and sigh "All for Dani"

Shawn just confessed his feelings for me. Something I've been dreaming about for years and I couldn't do anything to make my dream into reality. I really do care about Dani, I do. But risking a friendship for her brother is a lot.

I knock on Dani's front door and she opens it with a big smile on her face. "Hey girl hey" Her eyes land on the plastic bag in my hands. She squeals and quickly takes it from me.

I shake my head at my friend and walk in, taking my shoes and jacket off. Dani set up the tv for us and a comfy sitting area.

Music blasts from upstairs, indicating Shawn must be home. Dani must've noticed me and rolled her eyes. "You know Shawn, deaf as a motherfucker"

A feeling rests at the pit of my stomach. It's guilt.

"Dani, I need to tell you something"

This catches Dani's attention as she looks at me with sympathy. "What's wrong Y/N?"

I take a deep breath before speaking. "I like Shawn. A lot" I confess

I dip my head down, ashamed and ready for her reaction. Nothing comes out.

Dani bursts out laughing a second later. "I know that already, Y/N" She continues to laugh as I stare at her in confusion.

"What? How?"

"It was so obvious. The way you two look at each other, it's special" She smiles. "Shawn is annoying but I do love and care for him. He's my twin and you're my best friend"

I pull Dani into a hug. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner D"

She pulls away and smiles sympathetically, "It's cool. You two are so cute together. I honestly wouldn't mind. Just, no sex when I'm home"

"Dani!" I scream

Dani laughs and pats my back. "Go get em tiger" She winks

Dani disappears into the kitchen as I make my way upstairs.

I knock gently on the door, even though he probably can't hear it with the music blasting. I sigh and turn the knob, entering his room.

Shawn is at his desk, his back towards me. A bunch of papers scatter the floor and on top of his desk, along with some text books piled to the side. I approach him and place a hand on his shoulder.

He turns to face me, eyes widening. "Y/N? what are you—"

I press my lips to his and pull away quickly. "I like you, Shawn Mendes. Hope you don't mind" I smirk

Shawn gets up from his seat, pulling me by the waist, making me get closer to his body. He leans down, his lips brushing against mine. "I don't mind at all" He answers before pressing our lips together once again

I hang my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Shawn smiles into the kiss and so do I.
