I mark a red X over the twelve of October. He leaves in 25 days. The marker squeaks as I finish of the last cross and stare at the remaining days left. No more sleepovers. No more movie nights or deep conversations over the phone. Nothing. He's finally leaving and it's going to be the worst day of your life.

Once he's out that door, he's going to be a whole new person. Every girl you'll know and millions and millions more will know his name, his favourite colour, his middle names and his shoe size. What they might not know is how he got that scar on his cheek or how the lazy eye became to be.

I know all of his secrets and embarrassing moments because all those memories were spent with me. My thoughts are interrupted at the vibration and ring tone of my phone. Shawn's face pops up with the name 'Best Friend' and a poop emoji next to it. My eyes light up and I quickly slide the answer button.

"Hey Mendes" I chirp, "Finally got that head of yours out of your non existent ass?"

Shawn scoffs as I hear him shuffling around. "For your information missy, I have a bigger ass than you so HA!" I roll my eyes at his immaturity. "Anyway, I figured out some new lyrics for a song.." He trailed

This intrigues me. "Let me hear it" Shawn shuffles around again and a rock is thrown at my window, startling me. "Oh shit" I mutter

I turn to see Shawn waving, his guitar on his lap. "Cute, a personal concert for me" I end the call and open my window.

"I'm just singing the lyrics I thought of. Don't flatter yourself Y/N" he teases.

I settle myself into my desk chair as Shawn prepares himself. He starts to strum and then whistle. I nod my head to the beat, swaying back an forth softly. Shawn's forehead scrunches—he's focused. His hair is growing slightly and his skin pale as snow. He needs a tan asap.

"I promise that one day I'll be a around, I'll keep you safe, I'll keep you sound" Shawn sings angelically. I mean, he's always been a great singer since the beginning. It still amazes me how much he's improved. No more voice cracks, no out of tune notes, nothing. Just, an amazing voice.

"Right now it's pretty crazy, but I don't know how to stop, or slow it down" He strums again, giving me a quick glance and going back to strumming again. "Hey, I know there are some things we need to talk, about" The new lyrics pop up as I hear the foreign words. This just might be the pre chorus. Nice Mendes.

He's looking into my eyes, still strumming perfectly and in beat. "But I can't stay, so let me hold you for a little longer, now" My heart strings tug at the look in Shawn's eyes. Guilt.

He stops strumming and just looks into my eyes. Emotions flood mine as I try to suppress the new lyrics. Shawn's never really talks about who his lyrics were specifically about, just that he wants to write stories through songs. This song in particular is different.

"What do you think?" Shawn asks, setting down his guitar.

I smile widely and clap. "That was really good Mendes. Just need a good chorus, second verse and a kick ass bridge an you'll be set"

"Thanks Y/N" I give a thumbs up.

I wonder if the song was about someone. He never likes to tell me about them. The 'it's just about stories' thing is complete bullshit.

"You're right"

My eyes widen. "What"

"The song is about someone this time" He answers my question
