Chapter 3 – Home Or Hell?
After school Amy, Ben and I decided to chill at Ben's house since his parents were off at work. We did the usual like watching TV, smoke, more TV, bickering about Ben's bad taste in music, and maybe we had a beer or two. We spoke about the guy Amy was seeing for a few month and the fact that he was already 28 and the lead singer of a not really successful rock band. Amy was madly in love with this Scott guy and he didn't know how young she really was or that he was around 10 years older than her. She went out late at night for a few months to support him at his mini concerts in little, wrecked bars in town. Scott had dark hair, a lot of tattoos and wore eyeliner, which Ben made fun of when Amy wasn't around. As Scott found out that he was basically breaking the law by meeting Amy he broke up with her, which left her heartbroken. It needed a total of two months to get her in a better mood and now she was nearly over him. The only problem was that she still stalked the band since she really liked the music. We were bickering about the fact that she should have been honest with him from the beginning one regarding her age but she argued that 'love knows no age'. True, but it was still illegal and Scott knew.
We totally forgot the time and I nearly choked on my beer as I saw the caller ID on my ringing phone.
"Shit." I cursed before answering. "Yeah?"
"Where are you, Kelsey? The food gets cold." Marcus icy voice spoke.
"I forgot the time. I will be home soon." I bitterly replied.
"I hope so. We have a lot to talk about." Before I could reply he ended the call.
"Was it him?" Amy asked. I nodded.
"Ben, are you able to drive me home?" I asked with pleading eyes. Marcus call was never a good sign.
"Sure thing. Just hope the cops won't stop us." He clapped his Hands and got up from the couch. "I can drop Amy off on the way too. Let's go lady's." Both Amy and I rolled our eyes but followed him anyway.
-_-_-_-_-_-
Marcus was already watching us from the window as Ben dropped me off at home. I quickly thanked him and rushed to the front door. It was easy to be mad at Marcus and say thing like 'I don't give a shit about his opinion' when he was not around but I had to admit, it was different when he was around. He had this dark aura around him, which gave you the chills and he knew how to convince people to agree with him and everything he said, like my mum. Sometimes he got totally out of hand and got really aggressive and.. Brutal. But this luckily just happened every few month. In my eyes, he was a manipulating bastard. He was the one in charge of everything because my mum wasn't able to handle things anymore. It was like he was the leader and she was his stupid little peasant.
"Kelsey." He greeted me smiling. It was a false bitter smile, which automatically gave me Goosebumps. "We were waiting for you. Take a seat at the table." I stepped into the dining room and sat down on my chair next to Jay. Mum just stared at her plate and Jay sent me a look I couldn't quite read. "Now that we are all here we should finally start eating." He said. Mum took her fork and smiled at him, which he friendly returned. Still, I was sure he didn't mean it. Everyone started eating. "Kelsey, your mum told me you refused to get up and go to school this morning, is that right?" He suddenly said catching me off guard. Jay stopped in his tracks and so did I. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Normally mum did not tell him about these little things like me not wanting to get up. She always tried to hide it so he didn't get too angry with us.
"I-I was tired and didn't feel well." I quickly answered without looking at him.
"I see. And how come that your teacher phoned me today at work to inform me how glad she was, that you finally attended a whole day at school again. Seems to me that you didn't go to school quite regularly for a while. Is that right?" I blankly stared at my plate. Mrs Simons had never called him at work.
"She probably just confused names." I answered shortly not daring to look at him.
"Do you think I am stupid Kelsey?" He asked calmly; too calmly.
"No I-I jus-.." Suddenly he got up from his seat and forcefully slammed his hand on the table. The loud noise making all of us flinch.
"Do you think I don't know what has been going on the last few weeks, Kelsey?!" He yelled. "I know about your little rebel acts but it won't work anymore!" His voice had never been this angry before. I realised that Mum had started crying already and Jay was trying to control his anger. "If I get a phone call from one of your teachers again or you disobey one of my rules ever again Kelsey I swear I will-" Suddenly Jay rose from his seat too.
"You will what?! You won't treat my little sister like that you prick!" He yelled back at him. Mum and I both looked at him shocked. What was he doing?!
Marcus sent him an icy glare. "Sit down little boy."
"Fuck you! I'm not going to put up with your shit anymore! Isn't it enough for you to destroy my mum?! Do you really need to get Kelsey in this?! I fuc-" Before Jay could say anything more Marcus was around the table, got a hold of his T-Shirt and slammed him into the wall.
"No, Jay! Oh my god Mum, do something!" I cried.
"You little piece of shit!" He started to throw punches at Jay. "If you ever speak to me like that again..." Punch. "Dare to raise your voice while talking to me again..." Punch. "Or disobey any of my rules..," Punch. "I will fucking kill you!" Punch.
All of his punches were directed at Jay's face. I looked at my Mum silently pleading her to stop this put she just looked away and cried. Like always.
As I looked back Jay was on the ground a heavy breathing Marcus hovering above him.
Jay didn't fight back. He didn't fight back anymore.
