Chapter 22 – What Have You Done?!
I was devastated to say the least. It was already evening and it felt like the tears would never stop coming. After Nate had left me in the park I just proceeded to sit there for a while and cry before going home and continuing to cry there. Marcus was home but didn't acknowledge my presence since he was watching sports. My mother was cooking in the kitchen and slightly smiled at me but I didn't act on it and just went to my room. Jay was nowhere to be seen. I hadn't talked to her properly since the incident with her pills and especially in those moments did I miss my mother from a few years ago. She would have noticed that something was remotely wrong. She would have taken me into her arms and she would have made me some hot chocolate; my favorite drink when I felt down or was sick.
I opened the door to my room and looked around, my vision blurry. My room looked impersonal and empty and I never really cared before until this moment. It just made me feel even more alone and it didn't look like a shelter anymore but rather like a prison cell.
I threw my shoes and jacket into a corner and put on a hoodie despite the warmth in my room. I just wanted to cuddle up on my bed and cry myself to sleep. There was nothing important enough to stay awake for but my wish to fall asleep was of cause not granted. I twisted and turned while my pillow got wet from my tears. Accepting the fact that I wasn't going to be able to fall asleep I tried the only thing that would maybe help me calm down on the inside when finding an answer. I needed to know what happened at the Party Nate had seen me with Aiden. I just couldn't believe that I actually made out with Aiden, a guy I barely knew, when I had feelings for Nate. I couldn't believe that alcohol would make me act like this.
The moment I couldn't take it any longer was when I picked up my phone and dealt Aiden's number. I knew that it was already late but I just needed to know what happened exactly. The phone range before getting directed to voicemail but in this moment I was persistent. I needed an answer now. After the third time calling him he picked up and greeted me with a sleepy voice.
"Yeah?" He said rather disorientated.
"Hey, it's me. Kelsey." I said my heart beating fast and I couldn't help but think this was a déjà-vu.
"Oh hey." He said rather surprised suddenly shuffling was heard. "Where are you going babe?" I heard a rather quiet voice in the background say and my stomach turned.
"Yeah, what's up?" He asked not seeming too interested in what I had to say.
"I need to know what happened at the party. I don't remember a thing and don't get me wrong.." I suddenly rambled. "I probably had fun but still, I need to know what happened." Aiden sighted and his mood suddenly shifted into an annoyed one.
"You drank too much, end of story." He said defensive and I didn't understand why. I hadn't done anything to him and he acted as if I had offended his great grandmother.
"I know.. But I mean between us." I said straight to the point not wanting to wait longer and Aiden obliged in a very harsh and unlikely way.
"We made out and you fell asleep right after anything serious happened." He groaned as if he was disappointed about the outcome. "Can I go back to sleep now?" He hissed and I was taken aback. Maybe he was just sleepy.
"Yes, I'm sorry for waking you up." I apologized meaning it. It was just very important to me to know that I didn't sleep with him even though it hadn't made my situation with Nate any better since I know couldn't decline that I had made out with Aiden.
"Night." He shortly said and hung up on my. I didn't understand his rude behavior but maybe it had something to do with the girl he was with. Maybe he was just tired? I decided to text him in the morning to see if he was okay but before I could even set my phone aside I received a text from him.
"Please delete my number. I believe we expect different things from each other. – A "It said and my mouth fell open. Was he serious? This couldn't actually be the same person I went to diner with or the person that I went to the party with. Aiden's playful and sweet site couldn't be seen during the phone call and I questioned if he even was the person I had thought he was. Jayson was probably right with his statement and I only now realized it. Shaking me head disappointed I was ripped out of my thoughts about Aiden's behavior that deeply hurt me since I thought he could be an actual friend of mine, by hearing how the front door was opened. It was already past midnight, who would be leaving the house around this time? Or was Jay finally home?
I opened my door and stayed in the frame to be able to listen what was going on downstairs but not be seen. The only downside was that I wasn't able to see what was going on downstairs as well.
"What are you doing here?" I heard Marcus ask with a confused voice. He nearly whispered so it was hard for me to understand him.
"Someone is going to tell on your.., Business." A female voice that was very hard to understand said to Marcus and my blood froze. Did she mean someone would tell on Marcus for selling drugs? My heart started hammering and I tried to get closer to the stairs but I still had no chance of seeing who was standing in our door.
"What do you mean?" Marcus said now with a murderous tone in his voice. He knew which consequences would come if he was actually proven to be a drug dealer and I felt my lips tug up into a nervous smile. This could go very good or very bad.
"I know, from a very reliable source, that someone is aware your profession." The voice continued but it was still too quiet to make out if I had heard it before. "And I would go check if a family member might be into this as well." She added and my heart stopped beating. No. What was she doing?! Jay didn't even know about any of this! I ran back to my room and closed the door jumping into my bed and pretending to sleep. Just a few seconds later, heavy footsteps made their way up the stairs in a rapid pace and I hoped he wouldn't come into my room. I couldn't take it anymore. Suddenly my door was ripped open and the bright light blinded me.
"What have you done?!" Marcus' angry voice screamed at me and I hoped the neighbors would hear it before he did anything to me.
"I didn't do anything." I stammered holding my blanket up to cover myself from him.
"Shut up!" He screamed again before taking my arm and ripping me out of my bed. "I know it is you!" He screamed and slapped my to the ground hard. I felt my cheek burning and the tears started to come. "You already played this one trick on us I bet you planned on telling on me. Didn't you?" He asked with a booming voice and I just cried from the boot that was slammed against me. "But let me make this clear. If you ever dare to tell anyone any stories or if I see you disrespecting any of my rules ever again." He said before pulling me up by my hair. "I'm going to fucking kill you." And with a punch to the face the darkness pulled me in once again.
