8: They are Famous

"What?!" She asked to clarify.

"I like you", Nate replied.

"But you just asked me to marry you?", she replied with a confused look on her face. Selena thought Nate was pulling a prank on her. Nate pulled out a small box from his pocket then let go off Selena and opened the box.

"I wanted to give this to you"

"Nate, you're crazy! I can't have that", Selena couldn't believe what she was seeing or hearing. Nate stood in front of her with a diamond ring in between his fingers.

"Sel, Since I met you I have liked you. It was like I knew straight away you were the one for me and I couldn't keep you away. I requested Max to find a way to get you to stay longer. I always made plans so I could spend more time with you. I really like you a lot Sel".

"Nate, you have lost your mind. You have only gotten to know the little of me in the last 2 weeks. You can't just ask me to marry you." Selena was outraged. She had guys ask her out on the spot but a marriage proposal was beyond imaginable.

"Say yes Selena, promise it'll only be for a couple of months", Suddenly from the back entered Max. He was holding a folder in his hand. The tone in his voice sounded annoyed and frustrated.

Nate let go off Selena's hands, as she stood there holding the ring. Max flicked on the lights and slammed his folder and bag on the table.

"Thanks for wrecking the mood bro!", Nate looked disappointed.

He turned back to Selena, "No, not for a couple of months, we are not using her like this", Nate tried to shoo off Max.

"Selena can I speak to you in private please", Knowing that was a hint for Nate to get lost, he left the room with a confused Selena and an annoyed Max. Max walked around the room blowing off the candles.

"What's going on Max? Please explain to me why both of you are being all mysterious and secretive and what's with this getting married for couple of months rubbish about?", Selena begged and sat down on the couch angrily.

"It's our parents, they wouldn't let us live in peace. The business me and Nate have got going here isn't fully under our name. The shares are divided and we want to claim it fully. My parents own the majority of shares and part of their stupid agreement before the handover is for Nate to get settled. We really need our business to be under our control. As creators, we want to be able to do whatever we like, promote whoever we like and enter into partnerships with whoever we like. But with our parents overshadowing us, it's hard", Max sat next to Selena explaining to her bit by bit about what else happens behind the curtains in the Jenson house.

"So you want me to pretend to be in a relationship with Nate, so your parents believe his settled and the business is all yours". Selena was laughing. She wasn't sure what she had gotten herself into.

"Ideally, we hope it's not pretending but real. Nate really does like you, but we don't have much time. We have trolled this for over an year now. Our parents are on the verge of handing our company over to this Chinese business tycoon and once that's done, we are under his command. So please just help us out".

Selena felt sorry for the situation they were in but she wasn't sure if she could make a decision now. "I need some time to think Max, this is all too much for me to take in. I came here to interview you guys, then ended up enjoying the beautiful country and now a relationship? You can't expert me to give an answer straight away". 

Selena got up and walked towards to grab her bag.

"Just hear me out first Sel", Max followed behind her.

She had millions thoughts running through her mind and the best she thought was to stomp out the door. Nate was waiting in the balcony and he saw her leave the house. She used the bottom door and went inside Max's house and up the spiral staircase to avoid Nate. The study room gave her a peace of mind and space to breath.

Nate opened the door to go inside the house and to find Selena when Max yelled out, "Don't! Give her some time". Max went up to his brother and gave him a hug. "Sorry bro. I know the timing isn't perfect but it needs to be done".

Back in the study room, Selena stood starring out at the mountains and the houses below. She thought about her feelings for Nate and wondered if it was all real. She had never felt this way with any guy and falling in love wasn't number one on her priority list. What she felt for Nate was almost on the same level for Nate. She loved the both for looking after her, being a friend and making her feel alive again. 

'What do I do?' She paced up and down the room trying to come up with a plan. She thought about her life back in New York and the grind and hussel she went through to get this job. She wasn't going to risk that. Then the thought of her university loans sweeped past her mind and she didn't want Nate to be part of her broke lifestyle. She didn't even have a functioning family. Nate's family was well respected and business people whereas she was an orphan who took the modelling route to make money the quick way. 

'But imagine the rise of fame, that will boost your career. Mason might even end up promoting you to a higher position with better pay. Then life is sorted'.

But she knew that wasn't fair because Nate actually liked her and she liked him as well.

'What if they use me to get out of their problems and leave me behind to figure it out on my own? What if we get caught up in the lie?' SELENA! Focus. Do you like Nate or not?'

'I do like him. Then what have you got to lose? Hmm  a Job! Which you will get it if the boys put in good words for you. They are famous'

She paced towards the computer behind her and quickly emailed Mason.

Then she spent about an hour talking and thinking to herself. Finally after the self thinking and the back and forth emails with Mason, she made up her mind.

She knew the answer she had held the key to both the lives of the Jenson brothers and herself.
