14: Suits and Lies

Back in the Hotel

"I don't get it, I thought Max didn't love her and it was all just a deal?", Selena was pacing back and forth in her room. She was getting sick of the secrets and lies that the brothers had.

"I may have not told you everything in full detail but that was half of it", Nate looked up from his laptop.

Selena was curious now, she quickly went and plopped herself next to Nate on the bed for more answers.

"Okie you missed out on some details, cool. So what is the full story?".

"Well, Yes they were married for contract purpose but Max actually loved her like crazy. He never dated and never had a girlfriend before so being married to Victoria was his first relationship and he learned to love her".

"Did she love him back?"

"I wouldn't know, neither does Max. He thought she loved her but who knows it could have been all just a play". Nate shut his laptop and put his arm across Selena, "That's why before we could let you find out anything in too much detail about us, we had to know you and your background. We needed to know that you wouldn't run away with my money", He joked at the end.

Selena slapped him on his chest and released herself from his hold, "Joke like that and it might come true! Does Max still love her?"

"How would I know that? Max doesn't like to talk about that topic, it's his secret"

"Well I will find it out. Now I am tired. It's been a long day. Tomorrow I have to meet your family and I need energy for that. Goodnight!", She flipped herself over and tucked herself in the blanket and dosed off to sleep.

A few minutes later, Nate's phone started buzzing.

"Yup! What's up?", Nate answered annoyed. He wasn't expecting Selena to shut him off like that earlier.

"Just calling to check up. Is she alright?", Max sounded worried.

"She is fine. Sleeping right now. She asks alot of questions", Nate looked at Selena and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I won't blame here. We have more secrets than friends. At least she accepts us the way we are. Anyways, I called to let you guys know I'll be late for lunch tomorrow. I had something come up"

"Business related?", Nate raised his eyebrows.

"Something like that. Tori..I mean Victoria called and wanted to meet up. One last meeting and she is gone forever", Max didn't sound happy.

"What do I tell at home? I don't think it's a good idea meeting her alone. Just be careful and if anything call me", Nate was worried for his brother. He knew his brother had a soft heart and he was afraid Victoria was going to play with it again.

"Just tell them I had a meeting come up. I won't be with her long. Just a quick talk and done", Max assured Nate nothing was going to go wrong.

"Alright, goodluck then. I am gonna go sleep now"

"Hey Nate, just dont tell Selena"

"As you wish", Nate didn't question why he couldn't. He thought best to just do what was told.

Lunch At the Jensons

"So remind me again why Max isn't here?", Selena kept annoying Nate for answers as they got in the car.

"All he said was some meeting came up and before you say anything, he said the meeting was okay to go ahead without me. I wasn't needed", Nate was annoyed. He didn't want to lie to Selena but he had no choice.
