I didn't get much sleep that night, none actually. I just sat in my bed, wasting away until my clock disturbed me. I made my way to the station, where from the outside, I heard Kikaru barking orders as usual. I only took three steps into the station before he gave me a smile.
"Ah, brother, sleep well?"
"What's the plan?" I asked him, sturdily.
"It's no concern to you, you're off the case," he said, taking a sip of coffee.
A loud sound of a smashing cup echoed through the station as I lifted Kikaru into the sky.
"Yato!" the chief yelled.
"I don't care about your position! I don't care about the fame! I don't even care about you! All I care about is Nakamura and I won't sit back while you look at him as a second priority!"
"Come now, Yato, you should know better than this," he said, slapping my hand.
He fixed his shirt as he gave me a more serious look. "Don't get in the way, understand?"
"That's enough you two!" the chief said. "Yato, go and cool down, I'll find some work for you."
"Chief, I can't just-!"
"You will do as I say!" he yelled.
I gave him a look I couldn?t quite explain but it proved to be effective.
"There orders from above? Kikaru's in charge."
I didn't say a word, I walked right out and got in my car, taking off.
"Alright, get back to work, Jimmy isn't going to catch himself!" my brother said, breaking the silence in the station.
I made my way down the street and parked down by the docks to have a look around.
"Come on, Yato. Let's get lunch, on me."
"Yato, want some coffee? I'm sure you pulled another all-nighter."
"Yato, we got another call, let's head out!"
I was thinking back at all the times Nakamura was there for me, he always worried and said if I did things like this, I'd be dead by 35 but I never listened. He always bugged me but for things, I needed like food or sleep. He's always been such a caring idiot, made me wonder why he chose law in the first place.
"I hope you?re okay, Nakamura.... I'm not giving up yet, not ever," I said to myself.
"This city isn't that big, if we skip lunch we'll find him by sundown!" Kikaru yelled.
"Kikaru look!" an officer said, bringing him a laptop
"We got a message from Jimmy!"
He opened a file, he saw a beaten and unconscious Nakamura tied to a chair under a single light with a sign in his lap that said, "Having such a good time."
Kikaru smiled. "Don't underestimate me, you cocky bastard."
"Get me an enlarged version of that picture and a good laptop!" he said, sitting down. "I'm about to crack this case wide open."
An hour passed and Nakamura slowly came to.
"Finally! You've been asleep for hours! I was getting bored," Jimmy said.
Nakamura tried to move but he felt pain all over his body.
"That accident sure did a number on ya, not going to lie I was scared I actually killed you," he said, laughing.
"Where are the other cops?" he asked.
"Poor souls, died on impact, never even saw it coming," he said, fake crying.
