Nothing On You

Chapter Twenty-six

I stand as I see Cristina and Devi come out of Izziah's room. 

"So you're here to see her," Cristina says walking to me. "It's about time." 

"You want to see her," Devi says "I know I'm the last person who should be saying this but, you'll never know what she'll say unless you talk to her." Cristina puts her hand on my shoulder. 

"Just make the first move, go in. Figure out what you're going to say after." She smiles at me before she and Devi leave. I put my hand on the nob take a breath and walk in. 

Her chest rises and falls soundlessly, her face placid no obvious expression not even a sparse smile tucked at either corner of her lips. Her soft clean curls lay on either side of her head, framing her face, filling in the curves made between her neck and shoulders. 

Finally she's safe. She going to be alright. Just sitting here, watching her sleep makes me feel lighter. No apology, no gift, no flowers can reverse the damage Natalie has done. Izziah won't take me back but I can at least sit her to feel close to her, to feel her warmth. My eyes linger on her lashes, her lips the height of her cheeks; I know those curves so well. They way her cheeks would rise when she smiled, how elegant her lashes looked when she would blink slowly analyzing her surroundings and they way her lips would create the mischievous smirk that she often wore. 

I run my thumb over the oblong box in my pocket, it's all too familiar texture against my skin. I still want her to have this. I was made especially for her. Sliding the box out I uncover the necklace. The silver chain houses the silver coin with the a heart cut out, tiny diamonds surrounding the shape. My eyes wander to her again. 

Let's runaway to the place where love first found us...

Passes my lips. She shifts and I blink back tears. I stand and snatch my fedora off the bed. I run my hand through my hair, my fingers nearly getting caught in the knots. She wouldn't want me here. I need to go. I hear her move again as I reach the door knob. 

"Bruno." Her voice is soft. 

"I'm going," I say quietly, tears forming furthest recesses of eyes. 

"Wait," I turn to her. Her rich brown eyes hold my gaze, warm sleep folded in. She sits up. "I forgive you." 

My heart stalls, my lungs stopping with it. I walk to her, tears materializing in her eyes. I sit on the gurney beside her. "You do?" I ask cautiously. She retrieves a slip of paper from her bedside. 

"I read it. None of it was your fault. I forgive you." Looking down I emit a sigh of relief as a tear falls from my right eye. Her fingers fill the spaces between mine. I look up, her eyes glassy. Her hand finds my cheek, the warmth  easing my eyes shut.

Our lips meet. She moves, pulling me closer, caressing my cheek. I move closer, her vanilla scented warmth encasing the two of us. I wrap my arms around her, pulling her ever closer with my hand at the base of her neck tangled in the roots of her hair. Foreheads pressed together, her hand runs down my cheek. She whispers;

"I love you."

Izziah's POV

"Yes!" I say pumping my fists up and down. "I win again." 

"Alright, alright. You win. So, how do you want you're hot chocolate?" Bruno asks. 

"With cinnamon and marshmallow please." I smirk. He heads to the kitchen. Minutes later he returns with my chocolate with the works. Handing me the mug he sits down beside me.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, what is it?"

"What would you say if I said," The light catches in his soft brown eyes as he looks full on into mine. "I think I want to marry you?" He sings. 

My eyes go wide as he pulls a small velvet box out of his pocket. As he opens it I catch a glimpse of a brightly colored stone. I box reveals a black gold ring with diamond in crusted in the band and a sparkling purple diamond in the center. 

"Izziah," he pauses as he bends down on one knee  in front of me. "Will you marry me?"
