Two years ago today, my dad died in a car crash. He was hit by a truck driver who ran a stop light and the truck flipped over and landed on dad's car killing him instantly.

"Happy birthday sweety." Mom said kissing my cheek and fixing the strap on my blue dress.

Momma looked just like me, except she had short, wavey hair that was black. She is very light. I have long waist-length dark brown hair, caramel colored eyes, and I was dark-skinned. Today happens to be very important to me.

Today is my 18th birthday.

"Thanks momma." I said.

"Happy birthday Anorey." My oldest brother Ashton said wrapping his arms around my waist.

My brother Aston looks just like me, the only difference is his eyes are blue. He's a year older than me and I love him dearly.

"Thanks."

Then little Alistair came wobbling in. He's 10 months old and can walk; sort of. He small with caramel eyes, black spiky hair that refuses to be fixed.

I picked him up and kissed his cheek.

"Hey sweetie. How's my angel?" I cooed.

He gurgled and clapped his hands, making us laugh.

"I have a surprise for you." Mom told me.

Momma went into the garage and came back. few minutes later with a long rectangle. Ashton took Alistair and I took the present from momma and opened it.

"Thank you!" I said hugging her.

It was a keyboard.  It had everything from a recorder, a microphone, a CD player to a music maker.

"Your brother helped pay for it. He knew how much you wanted it." Momma explained.

I kissed Ashtons cheek and thanked him.

"You're welcome sis." He said smiling.

Then out if nowhere my phone rung.

I close my eyes

and I can see a better day

I pray for the brokenhearted

Pray for the life not started

I pray for all the souls in need

I pray

can you give em one today

I just can't sleep tonight

someone tell me

how to make a change

"Hello." I said.

"Hey there sweetness. How are you?" My ex asked me.

"What do you want? You've got some nerve calling me." I growled.

"Can't I wish my girlfriend a happy birthday?" David asked.

"No you can't. You've lost that right." I said hanging up in his face.

Then the doorbell rang.

Mom went to answer it.

"Bababa." Alistair said tilting his head.

"I'm alright sweetheart." I said kissing his cheek.

"Are you sure?" Ashton asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"Anorey, someone is here to see you." Mom yelled.

"Coming." I replied.

The three of us walked into the foyer where my mother was.

"Who is it mom?" I asked.

"A boy named Embry." Was all she said before taking the boys into the other room.

I opened the door and gasped at the sight before me.

Embry Kings was standing in my doorway in his Navy uniform with a dozen roses, a gift bag and a small box. The last time I heard from him was last year after he graduated.

"Hi Embry." I said closing the door.

"Hey. I...I wanted to bring you a...a present for your birthday. I hope you like them." He said handing me the presents.

"You didn't have to go through the trouble, but thank you very much." I said softly.

"It was nothing." He said blushing and rubbing his neck.

"Still thank you." I said kissing his cheek.

His blush darkened. "You're welcome. I have to go now, but I'll be back in about a month. Maybe we can hang out sometime."

"I'd like that." I said.

"Until then." He said kissing my hand.
