"Do you fear the sleepless nights? You have no idea how long the dark lasts when you cannot close your eyes to it."

Kylie

I hear a loud bang and the sound of wood being smashed to splinters. Then there was a crash, it seemed as if one of the vases in Ace's living room had fallen and shattered to pieces. I sat up, my eyes wide open. I felt very alarmed and decided to shake both Ace and Lynn awake in a panicked manner.

"Guys! Someone's trying to break in!" I whisper yelled. Ace jerked awake and Lynn rubbed her eyes. The two of them hurriedly leaped out of the bed.

"Lynn, babe. Go hide in the closet now," Ace ushered his girlfriend out of bed. Lynn went to go hide, leaving just Ace and I alone. Footsteps from downstairs thudded across the floor. Ace hastily grabbed a pocket knife from his drawer.

"Ace, what are you-" I was cut off by the blonde in front of me. He had an angry glint in his eye.

"I'm going out there alone. Kylie, you stay here. I want to see who your stalker is even if it's the last thing I do." I grabbed his arm before he stepped out of the room.

"You can't. This is my problem, so I will handle this." I took the pocket knife from him and bounded out into the hallway. I dashed down the stairs.

There was a silhouette of the person in the living room. My stalker wore a fox mask and he was holding an axe. He lunged at me with it and I jumped back, bumping into a chair. He continued to swing at me with his axe, putting holes in the walls as I continued to dodge his hits.

I could hear his ragged breathing emit from his mask as he started to grow tired. His muscular form was slightly bent over. That was when I took my chance to swipe the blade across his right bicep. The guy let out a pained grunt and sent a hard kick to my stomach. The wind was knocked out of me and I was sent flying a few feet before hitting a bookshelf.

I saw blue spots in front of my vision as books tumbled down on me. By time I recovered myself, my stalker was gone. He was nowhere in sight. I let out a loud yelp as I felt the bookcase slowly lurched forward.

"Kylie!" I heard someone shout my name just before the bookcase crushed me. I felt a burning, sharp pain on my side. I let out a shrill cry from its force. My head was slammed back onto the wood floor and everything went black.

I laid in the darkness unable to move. In the distance, I saw what looked like to be Lily perched ontop of a skull. The light was dim, and the air was cold. I felt goosebumps crawl up my arms when I noticed that her coat was an inky black. A pair of black wings were sticking out of her back.

"L-Lily?" I stammered fearfully. Her green orbs turned into a crimson red. She hissed at me and I let out a yelp of surprise. I was now able to sit up and crawl away from her.

My back hit some kind of invisible wall. I stood quickly stood up in the dark. Lily and the skull had disappeared into nothing. I felt a sharp pain course through my head. I woke up with a gasp, and the blinding lights hit me.

"She's awake!"

"Oh my god, Kylie!" I groaned as I heard the loud voices. I rested the crook of my right arm over my face. There were bandages on my wrist. All I could remember was that my stalker had broke into Ace house and tried to kill me.

Everything went blurry after that. "Are you alright?" Ace asked beside me. I could hear Lynn sniffling from the corner of the room. I removed my arm and laid it limp by my side.

"I'm managing fine," I say dryly. The blonde gave me a water bottle to drink out of. I quenched my thirst as the cold substance slid down my throat. I set the bottle down on the counter beside the bed.

The door opened and a doctor stepped into the room. He had a clip board and wore the classic white coat. His gray eyes were adorned with specks of silver. I read the nametag and almost recognized him. "Hey Kylie, it's been a while! How are you doing?"

He used to be a doctor at another clinic. I remembered him from when he tried to remove small pebbles that were wedged inside of my knees. I was only nine back when it happened. It was awfully painful. But after that, he let me sit in his office chair and play around with his bobble head collection.

I strained a smile and sat upright, clutching a white pillow in my arms. "I'm doing well Dr. Owens. I just have some mild pain on my side and a headache." He chuckled and wrote that down on his sheet. Ace decided to stand up and went to sit by Lynn instead.

Dr. Owens took his seat beside me. "Well, you did hit your head hard. And somehow, glass punctured your waist so I had to be real careful in removing that." I shook my head in disbelief and rubbed my eyes. "A policeman from the station will come to ask you some questions."

I brushed off the fact that I was going to be dealing with a person of high authority. I was going to be speaking with someone who is willing to risk their life while protecting this town. "Oh, alright. How long do you think it will take me to fully heal?"

"In my experience with other past patients who had the same injuries, normally I would say about two weeks. But you're a young individual, so maybe you'll heal in a week." Dr. Owens smiled at me and grabbed his clipboard and pen. I sent him another smile in thanks as he left. I glanced back at the couple who now sat by the window.

Lynn was staring blankly at the painting on the wall. Ace was tenderly running his fingers through her hair. I cleared my throat and they both snapped out of their trance. "Thank you guys for bringing me here. I have really caused you enough of troubles."

Ace sighed,"It's really nothing, Kylie. I am financially stable enough to pay off the damages, so it's okay." I sheepishly shrugged at his tired response. Lynn yawned and rested her head on his shoulder.

"You were out for a couple hours. It's actually supposed to be lunch time now," She stated. My eyes lit up and I clapped my hands together, only causing myself to wince a little bit after.

"I know that I'm not supposed to be getting out of the bed, but can you please bring me some food?" Lynn couldn't help but to laugh. I always had time for food. My stomach growled loudly and Ace smiled at me.

His car keys jingled in his pocket as he stood up to walk towards the door. Lynn followed after him, shaking her head. "We'll be back in an hour. Hope you can handle that," Ace mentioned. I let out a humorous snort as he shut the door behind him.

I eventually got lost in my thoughts. I remembered the vision of Lily clearly. Her coat was not white, but I knew it was her because of the golden specks she had in her bright green eyes. The skull that she was perched ontop of gave me chills. I trembled in fear and gripped the blanket.

Was that supposed to be me?
