Rebecca's POV
I watched as Josh expertly played the piano. He had a focused look on his face as he pressed down on the keys. I watched him in admiration. I've always wanted to play an instrument, just never had the time to do so, or have anyone patient enough to teach me since I am terrible at almost everything. He turned slightly to look at me, his fingers still trailing over the keys. "You look lost," Josh told me with a smile.
"It was something beautiful to watch. And listen to." His smiled grew wider.
"I don't know. It's always been something I loved doing. It's weird, I know."
"It's not weird, stop saying it's weird," I told him. "I loved the performance." He stopped pressing down on the keys.
"Popcorn is ready!" Chris, Josh's friend, shouted from the living room. "Yo dude, since when did you have a cat?"
"I think he has found Crescent walking around my place," Josh said with a laugh. He stood up and helped me up from the floor. "I'm glad you liked the performance, as you put it. It's always harder playing to a few people rather than playing in a crowd of hundreds." We walked to the living room.
"You've played in front of hundreds of people?" I asked. I think I imagined it, but he might have tensed up a bit. I'm probably just overthinking, like always. I need to relax more. Now that I'm fired, I'll have more free time.
"Well, you know, piano recitals. My mom loved putting me in those so she could brag to her friends that her son can play Mozart."
"Well even if I were in a crowd with hundreds of people surrounding me, I would still say that you did wonderfully."
"I'll make sure you have exclusive VIP backstage passes to see me." I smiled at him. We sat down on the black couches, Chris having set up a miniature snack bar on the coffee table.
"Friendships are made over food," Chris stated with a smile. "We should watch a movie."
"Chris, you always fall asleep through movies. One time we had to carry you back to your apartment." Josh glared at his friend playfully. "You're not sleeping here again." He was filling a separate bowl of popcorn. Chris looked at him through the clear bowl that held the popcorn.
"Josh, my lovely friend, I have no idea what you are talking about," Chris stated, sarcasm evidentially coming from his deep voice. I laughed as Josh passed me the bowl. I ate some of the buttery popcorn
"He's usually not like this," Josh told me. "He likes being weird around new people. We still don't know why."
"Actually, that is completely, absolutely correct. Either the person is intrigued, or the person runs away. Clearly, Rebecca hasn't run away."
"Yet," Josh and I said at the same time. I smiled at him as he chuckled. Chris checked his phone.
"I would love to watch a movie with you guys, thank you for offering." I chuckled at him. "But I have an errand to run. Until next time, Rebecca. It was nice meeting you. Bye, Josh. Talk to me when you can about that thing."
"What thing?" Josh asked, his mouth full of popcorn.
"The thingy thing." I laughed at the two men. "Bye children, have fun."
"Bye Chris," I waved with a slight laugh. I found Crescent walking near my feet, so I scooped her up. "What thingy thing?"
"Rebecca, I have to idea." I smiled at him. "Do you want to watch more movies or play Mario Kart?" I gasped and grabbed his arm.
"Mario Kart," I told him. He stood up and grabbed a second controller.
"This might ruin our starting friendship," Josh warned. He placed the bowl of popcorn between us. I kicked my shoes off to get a rest from the heels.
