2 years later, Kayla found herself to be well known around New York. Due to her book that was released last year, "Untold Story of A Dark Skinned Girl"--sold 360,568,000 copies worldwide in the first two weeks. Kayla's phone has been ringing off the hook for interviews, speaking to young girls at schools, and magazine photo shoots. She couldn't believe all the acknowledgement she was receiving from people. Although Calvin and Asia were called out for their past wrong doings, they still proceeded to gain a great relationship with Kayla.
At the moment, Kayla was at a social group discussing with young dark skinned girls that have lack of confidence.
"First, I wanna tell you young ladies that you are all very gorgeous." Kayla paced back and forth around the small room. "Second, don't listen to what people say about you, no matter if it's mom, dad, cousins, friends, and people at school. You need to know when you look at yourself that you are beautiful. God made you in that beautiful skin for a reason."
"But, how are we supposed to feel this way? It's too hard." A dark skinned girl --- black and purple box braids flowed down her back, looked as if she was 12 years old, light purple contacts glowed in her eyes. "I wanna feel beautiful, but I can't if I'm always called the ugly duckling."
"You aren't ugly at all. You all are beautiful and when you see yourself in the mirror, that is you. Nobody else. I used to feel ugly about myself, but I had to let myself know that my skin is beautiful anyway. My father had me thinking I was ugly ever since I was 6. By 17 years old, I got the picture that I was beautiful no matter what I heard. Life isn't easy ladies, but harming your body won't help either."
"Ahh, I get it; but why are light skinned girls determined more beautiful than us? I just think it's dumb to go by pigment of skin." A brown skinned girl --- chocolate brown eyes, short curly black hair stopped at her neck, 18 years old, and blossomed pregnant belly.
"I can only say the society made us think that light is the right skin. It's so incorrect to determine on pigment that's why I say feel comfortable in your skin. Confidence is the key to success." Kayla returned to speak on the brown skinned girl's stomach. "If you don't mind me asking , how far apart are you?"
The brown skinned girl scoffed. "7 months from my ex boyfriend Daryl." The brown skinned girl began to explode into a million tears. Daryl extremely broke her heart after leaving her from the unexpected news.
"Wait, I'm sorry what happened?" Kayla asked in a concerned tone.
"I thought Daryl loved me. He made me feel like I was beautiful because he was cute and light skinned. I never thought I would be with a guy before him. Then I found out , he just wanted some sex. Now, I'm here pregnant all alone." The brown skinned girl wiped heavy amount of tears streaming down her rosy cheeks.
"I understand how you are feeling. But, I wanted my first child because I never felt loved at all." Kayla tried holding back her tears because she understood how the girl was feeling. "After everyone figured out I was pregnant, no one seemed to really care about me that much. My so called boyfriend stopped talking to me and you know what? I still took care of my daughter with the help of my uncle and you should show everyone that you are strong with your baby. You might go through some trials to get to your happiness. I promise you after this baby is born, you will feel more calm about everything that's going on. The only thing you'll think about is you and your baby. You understand?" The brown skinned girl finished wiping the leftover tears and nodded slowly with a smile.
In ten minutes Kayla had to quickly end her social session with the girls because she had to be on a talk show soon. Also they were already in the social group for a hour. The girls wrapped up the session by asking Kayla questions about her book and how to be more self confident. She hugged all of the girls and headed out of the room. As she exited the room, the pregnant brown skinned girl tapped Kayla's shoulder ; smiling brightly.
