You know, that short line with a slightly tapered down side and a dot below it?
Or the inverted 'i' ? However you choose to look at it. Your choice.

To say something suddenly and loudly, especially because of strong emotions or pain.~ Oxford Dictionary (8TH Edition).
That is self explanatory.
Eg:
1. "Duck!" I yelled, as the ball flew over my head.

"Duck" she yelled, as the ball flew over my head.So let's see the reactions to both sentences.
Person 1 : "Thanks. If you hadn't warned me, I'd be sporting a bump on my head." That's a reaction to sentence 1. From that sentence, a reader knows I warned the person.
Person 2: (glares at me whilst holding a cold towel to his forehead) Why didn't you warn me? Thought you told me to look at the duck."
😇. I hope you understand.
So these are simple signs; easy to use.
I've only stated their uses, not the rules accompanying them. Those will come up in another chapter... Or book.😇.
