I'm so ashamed, but I'm gonna tell you anyway.
I actually wrote down cooking directions in a novel of mine.
Take heed! A novel is not a cookbook. Repeat after me.
A novel is NOT a cookbook
Serious emphasis on not.
If you must write a novel, do not involve cooking instructions in it. It may be okay to do so after you're done with the story, but NOT during the story.
If you must write a cook book, which is possible- which I'm sure some of us are in dire need of- make it a cookbook.
It's a good warning. I don't know how others will take it, but I'm sure I'm right.
