Chapter 1: Kimberly and Jake

At the age of ten I've always believed there were vampires somewhere in the world. They weren't just blood suckers, they also had powers. All vampires had different powers. Some vampire powers were passed down through families but that was rare and only happened when vampire families had been around for a long time. Some of the powers were: reading minds, seeing the future, making objects move without touching them and lots more. (I'll say some during the story.) This is how I became a vampire and my life...

My name is Vicky and I'm 15 years old. I was a smart girl for my age. I was a year level higher than what I was meant to be so I was the youngest. I have long black hair that I always wore out. My hair went down to about the middle of my back and was as dark as the night. I was different because of my hair and was always picked on for it because everyone else's hair had highlights or lowlights in it, even when they were younger. People were nearly always born with highlights or lowlights; it's just that I wasn't.

We were in homeroom just before the first class of the day started. Our teacher just told us that we were getting two new students in our class. All the girls were excited; even I was. You see I don't have many friends. The only good friend I have is Astra. She's always been my friend even though I'm so different. Sure I got along with the other girls, just. No boys had ever liked me. There was one that I thought liked me and went on a date with me but it turned out it was just a dare. The girls on the other hand, well that was another story altogether. The girls were nice to me at times but if I did something so small wrong then they would all turn on me and ignore me or just pick on me. But the next day came and they would all be normal again. It was just weird but that's how it worked.

The teacher told us that the two new students were twins; a girl and boy. Their names were Kimberly and Jake. She wanted a student to show them around for a while and make sure they settled in well. All the girls but a few, including Astra, put up their hands to do it. Astra was my only friend. She never picked on me no matter how different I was. She thought it was cool that I was different and didn't have stupid permanent highlights/lowlights. Astra was a smart girl and had a very strange, but awesome, fashion sense. She was a little bit taller than me and had chin length hair. Her hair was a dark brown and had black lowlights. She had a very dark eye colour as well so it looked almost black but if you looked close enough it was just dark brown.

The teacher picked me and I knew why but I was still excited. She picked me because all the teachers felt sorry for me because I only had one friend and got picked on a lot. All the girls were jealous and started whispering to each other. I ignored them because I was used to it and after all these years it was easier just to ignore people.

At lunch I had to go see the homeroom teacher about the two new students. I got asked by her if I could come meet them at the office. I aged and we walked in silence.

When we got down to the office, I saw them. They were both beautiful people but I automatically felt horrible that two unbelievably beautiful people had to meet someone as different and not very pretty looking as me first. Where we live the sun doesn't come out so it was fairly grey. I introduced myself to them. Jake was the most handsome guy I had ever seen and I had fallen in love once I looked into his deep blue eyes. He had messy black hair with a few lighter areas here and there that were gold. He had a small smile that was more of a friendly smirk. He was fairly tall as well, a little under a head taller than me. He was wearing a black shirt and some denim jeans that fitted him perfectly.

Kimberly on the other hand didn't look like she was related to him at all. She had brown eyes; hair colour that was a flaming red with dark purple lowlights in it. Her hair was shorter than mine but not that much shorter. It went just below her shoulders. She was wearing just a plain purple shirt and some skinny denim jeans. She was about the same height as me so I didn't feel so short standing with them.
