Fifteen
Molly
Molly has barely finished dressing when there is a hard knock on her room door.
"Who is it?"
"It's me."
The familiar sound of her co-worker's voice makes her heart pound. This is not good. His presence can only mean one thing. Her time is up. She opens the door and he strolls in. "What are you doing here, Ben?"
He smiles, his dark eyes sparkling. "I'm here to see that things are done, since you can't seem to follow through."
"I've got it under control."
"Doesn't look like it. In fact, the boss thinks you're growing soft."
"I'm not."
"Then prove it. Since there's no chance of breaking them up now, we need to break her."
Molly's eyes narrow. "What do you mean?"
His bushy brows raise into his hairline. "Just what I said. It's payback time."
"Grasping his meaning, Molly closes her eyes and shakes her head, done with the whole thing and fully aware of the consequences. Not only will she lose her job, but she could face jail time for skimming money for the boss. Of course, that she'd done it for him won't matter. He knows how to keep his hands clean. He can make a person see anything he wants. She supposes that's how she ended up falling in love with him in the first place. He made her see something that didn't exist, made her believe he actually had a heart. Oh, she will pay for this, but she doesn't care. Not anymore.
"I'm done."
He smirks, scratching his protruding belly hanging over his belt buckle. "Yeah, I figured as much." He turns away for a moment, then suddenly his hand snaps out and the back of his fist lands against her eye. She staggers back and he grabs her hair, yanking her forward. She whimpers and he moves his face close to hers.
"Today we finish this. And I do mean we."
