When I woke up in the morning, my dream came rushing back to me. I shuddered. What did it mean?
Didn't the Clans and Firestar defeat the Dark Forest? Is it rising again? I shook away my thoughts as I clambered out of my nest, and crawled outside the den.
Cinderheart and Lionblaze were sitting by the fresh-kill pile, sharing a thrush. When they saw me, they waved me over.
"Morning Flamepaw. Is Skypaw awake yet?" Lionblaze asked me.
I shook my head. "No, she's still asleep."
"Well please may you wake her up. We're going to do battle training today." Cinderheart replied.
I squeaked with excitement and raced back to the den. "Skypaw! Skypaw wake up!"
"What? It's far to early to be awake, you know that Tess." Skypaw groaned.
I froze. Cherrypaw and Molepaw were in the den, and Skypaw just called me by my human name.
I leaned down and hissed in her ear. "My name's not Tess. It's Flamepaw, remember? We're warrior cat apprentices! Now wake up, Cinderheart and Lionblaze are taking us for battle training!"
Skypaw sat up in record speed. "StarClan! Did anyone hear me call you that?"
I shook my head. "No, but be more careful next time, alright?"
"Yea, yea. Wait, we're doing battle training?!? I'm there!" Skypaw shot out of the den with me right on her heels.
We skidded to a stop in front of our mentors and flicked our tails impatiently.
They looked slightly taken aback. "Did we have that much energy when we were apprentices?" Lionblaze asked Cinderheart.
Cinderheart twitched her whiskers in amusement. "Yes, we did."
"So are we going to do battle training or what?" Skypaw exclaimed, turning round in cirlces anxiously.
"Yes, we are. Now from the way I saw you two fight off those foxes, you already know a bit about fighting, so we're just going to neaten up you're technique." Lionblaze said.
"That's fine by us!" I said excitedly. Skypaw nodded in agreement.
"The let's get going!" Cinderheart exclaimed and bounded through the gorse tunnel, Skypaw and I hot on her paws.
When we reached the training hollow, it was empty.
I stared at it in awe. This was where Lionblaze and Hollyleaf had learnt to fight. This was where all of the great Clan warriors of the lake from ThunderClan learnt their first fighting moves.
"Uh, Flamepaw? Are you alright? You look like you're in shock." I was snapped out of my fangirling by Lionblaze's words.
I shook my fur. "I'm fine, I was just thinking."
Lionblaze didn't look convinced, but let it slide.
"Okay, Flamepaw, I want you to attack me." Lionblaze said, standing about 5 tailengths away from me.
"Like, right now?" I asked uncertainly.
"Yep. Just come at me. Pretend I'm one of those foxes you were fighting before and I'm trying to get into the nursery." He replied.
Cinderheart and Skypaw stood back as I threw myself at Lionblaze.
I knew he was stronger than me, so I used my size to my advantage, ducking underneath his outstretch paws and raking his belly with my claws, which were sheathed.
I spun around and aimed to jump on his shoulders. I knew that my gaze would give away where I was going to pounce, so I suspected that Lionblaze would jump up really high so that he would clear me, then land on top of me.
I was right as soon as I leapt, Lionblaze did as well, but he had forgotten about my jumpping ability. I still landed on top of him, and we wrestled on the ground for a bit before he finally managed to through me off.
"That was very well done Flamepaw. You used your skills and size to your advantage, and that's what helps you win a fight. Skypaw, it's your turn now."
Lionblaze panted.
We stepped aside as Cinderheart ordered Skypaw to attack her, just like I had done with Lionblaze.
I tried to focus on what they were doing, but my mind kept going back to my dream.
Why me? Obviously, we became cats for a reason.
I mean, as far as I could tell, no other cat was ever able to run as fast as Skypaw or jump as high as I could.
And that prophecy, it includes us. That was a definite. But what did it mean?
I shuddered and tried to push all my thoughts about the dream to the back of my mind, but it didnt help that the first thing I saw when I glanced up was the now familiar glowing amber eyes of Tigerstar.
Hi everyone! I know that it's a short chapter, but I've got writers block, plus I'm going crazy with school work and Mum's pushing me to do stuff that I don't need or want to do. Aka, educational stuff outside of school. I am plenty smart enough thank you very much.
Anyway, enough of me complaining. I need some ideas for the next chapter in this story. If you guys could give me some in the comments, I will be very grateful. I am also going to start dedicating chapters to people who vote often and give me very good ideas.
So yea, 5 votes and I'll upload the next chapter, when I write it.
O yea! I got 53 out of 116 odd boats at my competition in New Plymouth! How cool is that?
And since it was a ranking regatta, if you take out the 20 odd Aussies in front of me, I actually came around 30th, I'm about the 30th best sailor in New Zealand.
YAY!
