Jax and I went back to our seats still in a state of shock. I even had to wipe my eyes just to be sure that, that girl on the field was Mia Brown. The girl that no one knows, the nerd, the tomboy and the shadow. I watched as they went through some drills and skills. Mia seemed like a professional, she had skills that not most of our school soccer team players couldn't even pull off.
I thought back to our last schools girls soccer team to think if I ever noticed Mia in any of them. Unfortunately the last time we ever had a girls soccer team was back in the nineties. I've never seen Mia play for our home club team or join any sports at our school. Something isn't right here. Did Mia Brown all of a sudden become a soccer player overnight?
The game had started with half of the top twenty trialist on each team. Mia was placed into the blue team while the other team was green. The coach placed Mia as the winger and Mia seemed to have no problem with that. Jax and I looked at each other surprisingly. Winger was the fastest in the team and fittest. How in the world is Mia Brown playing wing? I've only played wing once, it's not an easy job. I would of expected Mia to be on the sideline with no one wanting her on the team. I thought wrong.
The game had begun and the green team had the ball first whilst Mia's team were setting up. From the blow of the whistle it was game on. Mia's team was fierce and so was she, she had her eye on the ball and nothing was standing in her way.
The green team had the ball making its way over the the blue teams goal. Mia went to kick the ball until she got block tackled to the ground. Jax and I winced for her "ouch" we both shouted. Mia winced too, but right away she got up like nothing had happen and made her way back to the ball. I could see she was fearless and she wanted a spot on the team as much as the others did.
The green team kicked the ball towards the goal and thankfully the goal keeper caught it. I watched Mia's reaction of relief cross over her face with joy. Now it was their ball, it was being played in the centre circle with Mia's team setting up for a goal. The ball was passed to Mia as she got closer to the goal as she side tackled many green players. Jax seemed impressed and never took his eye off Mia. Mia then passed to ball to the left as she moved closer to the goal. The other girl gave Mia a signal before kicking the ball towards her. Everything was now in Mia's fate. The whole team watched as the ball flew through the air as if it was going in slow motion. Mia jumped as high as she could moving her body in mid air, her body did a ninety degree flip as she kicked it with her left foot. Goal.
I've never seen anything as great as that in my life. It was as if she was combining gymnastics with soccer. Jax and I jumped off our seats cheering with glee. All the blue players, praised Mia while the green team were in a state of utter disappointment. Jax and I watched the whole game and watched Mia kill it on the field. I couldn't get over the feeling that, Mia Brown was playing on the field scoring an unforgettable goal, it was all unreal.
The last whistle was blown and the blue team cheered with joy and pride. Mia looked tried, and I don't blame her. She was doing all the running and I couldn't believe how fast she was and fit. So fit, that she could compete and win our school athletics. No girl at school is interested in sport these days, just cheer leading.
Mia and the coach had a little word. Mia seemed shy talking to him until a smile came across her face. The coach had his hand on Mia's shoulder as if she was acknowledging Mia for something. Mia walked into the changing rooms with with and endless smile full of pride.
She headed off the field headed towards someone, a guy. He looked familiar but I couldn't see as they were on the other side of the field. They both hugged each other and smiled at each other. I was confused, Mia was with a guy? She never told me she had a boy friend. He looked good looking and pretty decent, but what the hell was he doing with nerd girl Mia Brown? I choked at the word "boyfriend" never would I have thought that word would have to do something with Mia. I guess this is why she wanted to stay away from me, she was already in a relationship of her own. I was relieved now I wouldn't have to date her and continue on with the dare. Jax will have to choose someone else instead.
I was disappointed a bit, I wanted to find out more about Mia, and ask her why no one knew of this secret talent of hers alongside her secret boyfriend. I wasn't jealous or anything, I was just confused why she wasted her life wanting people to know she was a nerd, instead of knowing she could was a killer on the field, who plays the piano, sings and plays the guitar.
