A Daydream~
My eyes glaze over while North is droning on and on about something to Nathan...probably 101 benefits of kale, or the healing power of broccoli. I shudder. No one should be subject to this kind of torture! I'm sitting in Kota's window seat, looking out, when I spot a moving van down and across the street.
Two girls come out of the house to unload some boxes. One is taller, with dark brown hair and a scowl on her face. She grabs a small box and a desk lamp and trudges back toward the house, bumping into the other girl and causing her to drop the footlocker she is trying to carry.
The other girl is so tiny that I might have thought she was 12 or 13. That is until I saw the curves, diminutive as they were, they were definitely in all the right places. I felt a heat creep into my cheeks and my ears redden. She has long blonde hair that is falling out of a clip at the back of her head, and is wearing a faded pair of sagging cut offs and a pale pink tank.
After her sister makes her drop the footlocker, she sits down and examines the handles. Looks like one pulled off. She leans back on her hands, closes her eyes, and looks to be soaking up the sunlight.
She must be a pixie! She uses the sunshine to power her magic! I bet that's why she moved here. With the woods backing up to the house, she can meet with the other fairies to dance under the moonlight. She probably sings to the trees when no one is around, and her sister is a goblin- a fairy who has lost their magic because of a dark heart!
Or maybe there aren't any other fairies around, and that's why she looks so sad. She had to leave her magical friends behind when she moved here. She's lonely.
A frown crosses my face when I think of the radiant pixie across the way.
But no! She won't have to stay alone! When she sleeps, the trees will whisper her sad song to one another until other magical creatures hear of their lonely princess. They will follow the melancholy melody back to its source and rescue the fair maiden from the goblins, and they will all live happily ever after!
"Oi! Earth to Luke!"
My eyes clear and see Gabe waving his hand in front of my face.
"We've got a family meeting in an hour at Vic's, and I'm fucking hungry! Let's go grab something before we have to be there!"
I look around to see that everyone else has already left. North left me the jeep, and I look a Gabe with a mischievous wink. "Let's get ice cream on the way!"
He laughs as we leave the room, and I briefly glance to see that the pixie is gone.
