I sat in the same dirty knit fabric chair like I did every Wednesday, my therapist I never bothered to learn the name of brought out his clipboard per usual and I resumed my uncaring posture, sinking low in my seat.
Everything was the same apart from one thing.
A guy who looked about my age sat near the door with a small notebook in hand which he was tapping a pen against. The morning sunlight streaming through the cheap Ikea blinds defined his high cheekbones and clear skin. A small silver stud was sported in one earlobe and his honey brown hair was cut short and lightly spiked. He looked up from his tapping and saw me looking at him, he shot me a cheeky smile which I didn't return, instead I turned to my therapist who was scanning through some documents and spoke to him so the boy behind him could hear.
"Who's the kid? Fresh meat or a new shrink?"
"Piper don't be rude." The therapist sighed without looking up. I grunted, shifting in annoyance at his blatant lack of care.
"Piper?"
I looked up again to see the kid looking directly at me. I knew he was talking about my name which some people took the piss out of before they realised I wasn't exactly someone to laugh at.
"Yes, Piper. Which is sometimes mistaken for pipe, which is what I will shove up your ass if you don't stop talking to me." I grunted, albeit less aggressively that I would usually.
He kept his mouth shut but an amused glint sparked in his eyes which ignited the bone dry tinder that is my anger. Who did this guy think he is? I have him fair warning, he's taking the piss now.
I got up and kicked a chair violently out of my way as I quickly closed the small distance between me and the cocky little asshole. He got up as well, holding his hands in front of him in a defensive gesture and I kicked his chair out of my way so I could pin him with my forearm against the graffitied plaster wall, inviting a small puff of dry wall to be disturbed in the air around us.
"Something funny, asshole?" I ground out of my teeth. He was taller than I expected, I was taller than most of the girls in this school so he was pretty tall considering.
"Piper, sit down!" My shrink hissed urgently, suddenly seeming more responsive than he was towards me a moment ago. Probably afraid of attracting unwanted attention. I ignored him and glared at the kid.
"I said, something funny asshole?"
Surprisingly instead of shaking his head or saying no he cracked a grin, it was amused and confident.
"You're just like how I've been told you are." He chuckled, somewhat strained because of the pressure I was applying to his throat.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I growled and applied more pressure on where I was pinning him, feeling his collarbones against my arm.
"I was told about you before coming in here, they told me not to provoke you. I'm here on an internship by the way." He said, regarding my earlier comment about him being a new shrink.
Oddly, for reasons I can't explain my anger slowly subsided and I released him from my hold, he rubbed his collar bones where I pinned him when he thought I wasn't looking, making me smirk.
"I'm done here." I announced before my therapist could say anything, feeling almost confused by how I quickly I had calmed down. Now, feeling more drained than anything I quickly grabbed my bag and walked out of the room, making sure to knock the boy's shoulder on the way. He chuckled again before calling out;
"I'm Mitch by the way!"
I didn't reply as I left the room, slamming the door as hard as I could.
