Oh look a thing

One for the road - Arctic Monkeys

My eyes fluttered open to the sound of raindrops pattering on my window, I always liked the rain, it usually calmed me, but not even the rain could sooth my extreme hangover. I groaned and snuggled deeper into my pillow, which was kind of raised and hard on one side. I sat up slightly, trying to ignore my thick throat and pounding head and punched the pillow to soften it up, I didn't expect to hear a grunt and a snore. Slowly, I opened my eyes and blinked away the blurriness to see the sleeping face of Mitch. I froze, goosebumps rippling across my skin at that moment I looked down to see I was in my underwear. I looked at my legs and saw our legs were tangled and one of Mitch's arms was draped over my naked waist, far too close to my ass for my liking.

I shrieked loudly and shoved him off the bed with all the strength I had with this hangover. He hit the floor with a thump and hit his head on the corner of my bedside table. Mitch yelled out in surprise causing my headache to worsen and I clutched my head in pain.

"Piper?!"

I looked at Mitch who was sitting on the floor rubbing his head.

Why was he in my room? In my bed?! Oh god...

"Did we do anything?!" I croaked as loud as I could, struggling to recall last nights events but coming up blank.

"What?! Pipe-" I cut him off by launching myself at him and pinning him to ground with my arm on his throat, I would've probably felt awkward about straddling him practically naked if I wasn't so angry. His eyes traveled down to my chest and I growled, anger growing I grabbed his hair and pulled it backwards, digging my nails into his scalp so he was looking at me.

"Answer me. Did we do anything?"

"What?! I don't know what you mean!" He yelled in panic.

"Did we have se-"

Oh shit.

I rolled off Mitch and sprinted the short distance to the bathroom, I kicked the door shut and threw myself over the toilet where I threw up violently. Attractive right?

Did I throw up here last night too? Oh god
my clothes have spew on them. I retched again out of disgust, this time coming up with nothing.

"Piper?" Mitch called out.

I couldn't exactly answer him, I didn't know what he expected to get out of calling me.

After I was sure the contents of my stomach had been emptied I got up, flushed the toilet and staggered to the shower where I ran the water and got in after stripping off the remaining 'clothes' I had on.

I washed my body and hair and made an attempt to sooth my clammy skin and raging headache by turning the shower colder. After I had washed myself I grabbed a towel, dried my body and towel dried my hair before slipping on my underwear again and opening the door where I saw Mitch sitting on my bed. His face reddened noticeably when he saw I was still in my underwear. He opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off quickly as I put on my clothes.

"I don't know what you're still doing here but if you're gonna give me some bullshit excuse as to why you were in my room I may as well warn you now, I know when you're lying."

He closed his mouth as if thinking of what to say before he spoke.

"Well I just finished skyping my friend when I heard a thud on the roof above me so I went up and saw you on the ground and you were drunk, you threw the bottle over the edge of the roof so I put you back in your room and I went to clean up the glass down on the floor and when I came up you were... Um, in your underwear smoking." He took a deep breath before continuing. "I tried to make you go to bed but you said you wanted me to tuck you so I did and you grabbed me and latched onto me so I couldn't leave if I wanted to - we didn't have sex or anything like that I swear! I would never do that to you in that state."

He flinched after his outburst, like he expected me to attack him or something. Instead I sat down next to him and looked him straight in the eye. Relief washed over me when I realised he wasn't lying. The pure fear told me enough.

"Fine." I said and got up.

"What?" He asked, confused.

"Fine. I believe you." I answered simply. He opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off. "But don't think this makes us friends. I still don't like you."

"Okay." He said, getting but turning to me before he left. "Hey Piper?"

"What?" I sighed and turned to face him.

"Why did you get drunk?" He asked, the tone of his voice a gentle and careful curiosity.

Should I tell him?

I paused for a moment, thinking of what to say before answering.

"If l told you that I'd have to tell you why I'm in this school in first place. And that, is a very long story."

There was a brief pause.

"Okay, see you Piper." He waved goodbye and left.

The door swung shut with a soft slam leaving me feeling oddly empty.

My phone vibrated on my desk, indicating I got a text. I unlocked my phone and opened my texts.

Unknown - Hey doll ;)

Piper - who's this?

Unknown - I'm hurt! It's Kyle!

With a frown I added the number into my contacts before replying

Unknown - hello?

Piper - I was just adding you to my contacts so I actually know who I'm talking to. How'd you get my number anyway?

Kyle - I copied it from the other phone I had your number on to mine

Piper - wow that's stalkerish

Kyle - hey I just wanted to talk to the chick who nearly broke my arm!

Piper - it was your wrist and you deserved it for being a cocky little bitch.

Kyle - ouch :(

Piper - but seriously Kyle, piss off I've got a hangover

Kyle - how come?

I put down my phone for a second and thought of what to say. I could tell Kyle because he would understand more than Mitch, right?

Piper - Wednesday therapy is hard.

Kyle - I get you. Okay so have fun sleeping off that hangover, later Pipes!

Piper - I will murder you.

Kyle - I'd expect nothing less of you. Bye!

Rolling my eyes I threw my phone onto my bedside table and did what Kyle had said, slept off the hangover.
