That same day I got a text from Jason.

Jason: Hey we heard what happened, who comes to check on you?

Piper: Mitch, as if I didn't see him enough.

Jason: ouch, one of us will text you when we're coming up.

Piper: kk :)

I threw my phone on my bed with a big grin on my face, Ian and Jason were the greatest friends ever, if not a little overprotective. I missed them a lot even though its only been a day.

I decided it would be best if I got changed into warmer clothes and opted for a large dark green jumper and just some thick leggings, I didn't put on shoes for obvious reasons and spent the next ten minutes trying to keep myself occupied in my small room.

Finding nothing, I sat on my bed and looked around my room, through the open door to the bathroom I spotted the open window that lead to the roof.

After much mental debate I came to the conclusion of 'eh, screw it.' and crossed to the window and opened it further, the warm June breeze tickling the lose strands of my purple hair that escaped the bun I'd put it up in. I paused for a second before shrugging and climbing out, the view was pretty nice, I could see the forest where Jason, Ian and I hung out at, and some kids who were huddled near the sheds a little way away from the school, I saw the flash of shiny long brown hair framing a small body and knew that Jenny was doing business. I sat down next to my window and admired the view and the sound of the wind that blew towards me, carrying a song with it.

"I don't ever wanna feel

Like I did that day,

Take me to the place I love

Take me all the way,

I don't ever want to feel

Like I did that day,

Take me to the place I love

Take me all that way..."

I followed the sound of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and avoided the plywood paneling covering up the weaker part of the roof to a window much like mine, I realised, much to my annoyance, that this was Mitch's room. Which meant this side of the roof was the boys dorm. Interesting.

Wait.

He was singing...

In the shower...

Oh this is going to be funny.

I neared the large bathroom window and sat down next to the edge of it, I waited until the pause after the second chorus and spoke.

"Red Hot Chilli peppers huh?"

There was a pause, then the sound of feet on a bathtub and the music abruptly cut off, there was a bridge of complete silence before he said anything.

"...Piper?"

"I would've thought you'd listen to chart music, you give off this kind of 'I'm a hipster mainstreamer trying not to be mainstream' vibe that makes me think you'd like shit like that." I said casually, as if he wasn't completely naked behind the wall separating us.

More silence.

"Though you didn't think I'd listen to Frank Sinatra, I also listen to Newton Faulkner too if you didn't already know, d'you know him?"

More silence, this time I waited for his reply.

"You do realise I'm naked right?" He asked cautiously, his voice slightly high than usual.

"If you weren't I'd be worried for your sanity to be honest." I responded brightly, my phone buzzed in my hand causing me to look down and see a text from Jason.

Jason - Hey we're outside your dorm answer the door

Piper- Kk hold on

I locked my phone and shoved it in my pocket before saying a casual goodbye thus ending Mitch's embarrassment, much to my disappointment.

I walked back to my window and slid through the gap before closing it and opening my door to invite my friends in.

--

"Wait so you just punched her in the head?!" Ian spoke through his laughter while clutching his stomach.

"Yeah! She went back about three steps, you should've seen her face!" I laughed too, trying to keep quiet incase of dorm patrols but failing.

"What happened then?" Jason chuckled.

"Well she tackled me and got a few good hits on me, she slammed my head into the concrete a couple of times but I kicked her where it hurts and she got off. I started punching her and she bit my arm." I explained, holding up my bandaged arm for Jason and Ian to see. "I head butted her and had my hands around her throat but frickin' Mitch pulled me off."

They both laughed quietly as a scowl presented itself on my face at the thought of Mitch.

"So the head teacher and Satan himself broke up the crowd and put me in suspension, I don't know what Molly has as punishment. How is she by the way?" I asked curiously after finishing my story.

"Her face is pretty swollen. Like, stung by bees swollen, her throat's got some nasty bruises too." Jason recalled, he sat next to her in English, she used to be all over him until him and Ian started hanging out with me, which I still found very funny.

I nodded with a grin and crossed my arms, leaning back onto the wall I sat in front of.

"So how's your time off been so far?" Ian asked.

"Given that its been day one, nothing much. I found out that I can get onto the roof from my bathroom window so I can walk to the boys' dorms. And I-" I cut myself off just as I realised I was going to tell them about talking to Mitch while he was in the shower, which might have sounded a bit weird.

"You what?" Jason asked casually.

"I uh, I saw Jenny doing business by the green bins." I said quickly, thinking back to the flash of brown catching the sunlight.

"Only Jenny." Ian grinned. "Well we should get going, I think the day is over and Jason needs to get home."

"Oh yeah. I keep forgetting you live with your parents instead of at the school." I said to Jason, he'd decided he wanted to try and patch things up with his parents and went to live with them instead of the school, he'd sometimes crash in Ian's dorm if an argument bubbled up or something but they were getting better along with Jasons tendencies.

"Later Piper!" Ian waved from the doorway with Jason by his side. I looked up kind of startled that he'd moved to the door so quietly, I got up to give them both a hug and waved them both goodbye as they walked down the corridor. Before heading back into my room my eye caught the black flash of a security camera, I flipped it off and quickly disappeared back into into my room where I'd spend the rest of the day in boredom before falling into a restless sleep with dreams I wouldn't remember in the morning.
