(continued flashback)

"Why wouldn't he wake up? Why?" Alya said, a frown forming on her small face.

Her mom calmly looked at her. "I know it's hard for you to understand, sweetie, but Miles... he's uh, sick."

Alya laughed. "Oh, so it's just like a stomach ache. It'll go away soon, right?"

Alya's mom gave her a sad smile. "Oh, Alya.."

She looked up at her mom. "What?"

Her mom took a slow breath. "The problem is, Alya.. Miles has, this kidney issue, see. And it can't be cured."

(back to the present)

Alya saw the scene fade away around her, and then she saw Miles again, sitting by the lockers.

He was frowning at her, but before he could say anything Alya quickly said, "Just another one of my flashbacks. Nothing to worry about."

She couldn't help but try to put the pieces of her past together. Usually they only occurred when there was something odd...

The boy that she had saw had been a spitting image of Miles. The same dark brown hair, same intense brown eyes, even the same name. They had both had a faint scene, and the same pills for his.. kidney disease.

This boy, the one in the past.. that was Miles. He had been her best friend. Now everything made sense to Alya.

She turned to face him. "I put all the pieces together."

Miles raised his eyebrows at her. "What?"

"I remember you, Miles," Alya said shakily.

"Remember me from when? Tell me one thing that will make me believe you," Miles told her.

She looked down in her lap, and then back into Miles's eyes. "You- You have a kidney disease."

Obviously taken aback, Miles sat backwards in disbelief. "How do you know?" he asked, his voice trembling.

Alya looked back at him. "It-it happened in first grade. I was all by myself. Then you became my friend, and everything became less complicated. Until I moved," she said.

He widened his eyes. "Blonde hair, blue eyes.. it's you, Alya. Alya Kenndrick!"
