Miles was still thinking about what had gone done at lunch that day when he got home from school. He could not believe what a jerk Bianca was for doing that to him. But more importantly, what she did to Alya.
He was sitting at his wooden kitchen table, furiously twiddling his thumbs, when he got a text from Alya.

Remembering what her dad could do to her, he had 911 on speed-dial in case something brutal was going on. He didn't want anything to happen that would harm Alya.
Hopping into his truck, he drove quickly over to the house where Alya and her dad. And Miles hit the brakes when he saw what was happening.
A small car was pulling out of the driveway, a blue one. Alya sat there, and she had bruises and scars all across her face. She was pounding on the window, mouthing "SOS," when somebody kicked her, and she clutched her side.
The car sped off, and Miles floored the gas and pulled his phone out of his pocket. One hand on the wheel, the other was shaking badly as he called the emergency line.
"911, what is your emergency," the lady said as he pressed his ear to the screen.
Rapidly Miles explained all the things that had happened to Alya, and what was going on.
"Police cars will come there effectively immediately. Don't worry Miles, Alya Kenndrick will be safe," the woman said in the phone.
Although her words were probably supposed to relieve him, it just made Miles more anxious. What if Alya's dad was too fast for them? Alya would be gone forever, and Miles could not handle that.
Still following the blue car, not caring if her went over the speed limit, Miles plunged into the forest, carefully aware not to run into any trees on the narrow path. He had almost caught up to them. It wouldn't be long before the police arrived.
Going at least 80 miles per hour, Alya's dad and Miles continued, not caring about the stunned expressions on the other drivers' faces.
But then the last thing that Miles expected happened. The small blue car Alya was in came to an abrupt halt, and Miles didn't have time to stop the truck.
The last thing her remembered was glass shattering around him, and his vision going black.
