Backstage: Miles and Alya

• Chapter Eight •

  It had been a week since Miles found out that this girl, Alya, was his best friend in first grade. It took him a while, but as he tried to think he remembered all of those days that they sat together, as little kids. When she moved, it had been especially hard for him to see her go. He didn't think that he would have ever seen her again.

  Since then, they had been together nonstop, whether they were paired for a project together, or just simply talking. It was nice to have her around, by his side. Until today.

  Jax sat next to him at lunch that day, while Alya was still in the lunch line getting her food. His headphones bobbed up and down on his neck as he teased, "Looks like somebody's got a girlfriend!"

  Miles, not getting the joke at all, replied, "Who?"

  Jax shook his head grinning, and Miles could tell he found this funny. "Well, you and Alya were hitting it off pretty well, last time I checked.."

  Miles snorted. "So what if I like her? What if she rejects me? Not only will I have not been her boyfriend, I would have lost her as a friend too."

  Jax laughed. "Here she come's now, so have fun pretty boy!" Then he got up from where he was sitting and went to go sit with Kit and Denzel.

  Miles sat there for a minute, scratching his head when Alya sat down. She giggled. "Looks likes something's on your mind Miles."

  He looked up at her. "I actually wanted to tell you that-"

  Miles was cut off by a shrill laugh.
He recognized that laugh: it was Bianca. "Actually," she said, taking a seat next to Miles, "he wanted to tell you that he's my boyfriend now.

  Miles's expression darkened. Alya, looking shocked, and upset? said, "Oh, is that so?"

  Before Miles could reply, Bianca planted a kiss on his cheek. "Yes. Yes he is."

   Alya lowered her gaze away from Miles. "Excuse me," she stammered, getting up and jogging towards the exit.

  Miles, riled up, glared at Bianca. "What did you do that for? I have never asked you to be my girlfriend."

  Bianca cut him off. "Getting Elsa out of the way." She saw Sasha taking pictures as they spoke. "And now the whole school will know that you are my boyfriend."
