The apartment was pretty bare. There was a couch and a TV in the living room, a small table and 2 chairs in the dining room, and 2 queen-sized beds and one dresser in the bedroom. There was also a bathroom and a kitchen, but that was basically it. No wall hangings, mats, plants, zip.
But I liked it that way. Sweet and simple.
"Sweet place! It must be so nice, your own place..." I sighed.
"It is pretty nice, isn't it?" She smiled. "But remember, I have a roommate too. Her name is Harmony. She is in Mexico visiting family for 2 weeks, so we have the place to ourself."
"So it IS your own place?"
"Hah, I guess so!"
"How long has Harmony been away?"
"Only for a couple days. That leaves us with just over a week to practice your talent."
"Does Harmony know I'm here?"
"She thinks you are a second cousin of mine from North Dakota visiting. She doesn't mind."
I tried not to chuckle.
Darla tried not to notice as she pulled out a laptop from her bag. "I'm going to work on something real quick if you want to take a shower or anything. Just make yourself at home."
I remembered that all I had with me was the clothes on my back. "Would you happen to have any clothes that I could borrow?"
"Oh of course! Where are my manners? I think you wear the same size that I do."
"I wear a Medium tee."
"Same. In the dresser in my bedroom, the very bottom has some jeans and shorts and the one above it has all of my shirts. Take your pick, whatever you want!"
"Thanks, Darla!"
"Oh no problem," she told me.
I went over to the dresser and picked out dark jeans with a purple, 3 quarter length t-shirt that said, "I don't always play volleyball. Oh wait, yes I do." With a volleyball on the back.
I quick hopped into the shower and let the hot water pour over me. While others would be singing, I recalled the moments of my day and tried to relax.
