After 10 minutes in the shower, I quickly dried off, got dressed, and wrapped a towel around my head. I headed out of the bathroom to find Darla chilled out on the couch watching a movie of some sort.
Noticing that I was out of the shower, Darla turned turned off the TV and turned to me. "You know, hot water costs money."
"Was I in there for too long?
"Na, I was just teasing you."
"OK good. You made me feel like I was in there a lifetime!"
"Haha! Yea you're good, I normally spend half an hour in there."
I smiled and crashed next to Darla on her soft, brown couch. "So what do you think the plan is to help me practice my 'gift'?"
"When you were in the shower, I questioned that too. I think that you should be able to go in and out of that state without it randomly happening or being shot by the FIFMD."
"That makes sense," I replied. "I really would like a sense of control no matter what the cost. The only obstacle is how that's going to work."
"I agree. It may take more work than we think. Or less. We won't know since not one of us has experienced this before, whether it be with ourselves or another person."
"What's your plan?"
Darla paused for a moment, looking at the ceiling in the hopes for an idea. "The best, and only, idea I have had so far is to go in and out of that state constantly so your body so it can get used to it."
"And how long do you think it will take?"
"Hopefully not long. I am wishing that we can get this accomplished in a week, week and a half at the most before Harmony gets back."
"Harmony?"
"My roommate?"
"Oh yea," I said, face palming myself.
Darla laughed and switched the TV back on. She frowned at some of the shows coming on, but stopped at the news.
"Yesterday at 5:00 PM," the news broadcaster announced, "a teenage girl by the name of Sarah Martel was reported missing by her mother. The last known sighting of her was at Sierra High School in Belding, Georgia by her school secretary. She claimed to feel sick and took a taxi home."
An image pulled up of my house, surrounded in caution tape and police vehicles. I gasped at the sight of it. Darla rubbed my back, trying to comfort me. The announcer continued to speak saying, "We checked out on her house. When her mother came home, she was shocked to find the house was empty. She immediately called emergency services. The only unusual thing found was a broken window in her bedroom, so we are unsure if that was a result of running away or even of a kidnapping."
Was that from Chuck and Bernie? I looked over at Darla with tears welled up in my eyes and she nodded at me.
