"Now on to this week's weather forecast with Gratek--"
Darla switched the TV off. She had a pained expression on her face and I thought I could see a tear in the corner of her eye.
I wiped the tears out of my eyes with my pointer finger. "I need to go home now and tell Mom I'm safe."
"It's too risky," Darla sighed. "Chuck and Bernie would find you right away, especially if your finding is news broadcasted."
"You make a point. Even so, what would I tell my mom?"
"You know, 'Guess what Mom? I got kidnapped because I can see into the future. Now they want my gift and that requires my death. How have you been?'"
I stared at her with confusion.
"You would tell her that you ran away."
I rolled my eyes at her. "But I would be lying to her. Plus, she has always told me that I could tell her anything."
"Well, I don't think that would apply if you were risking your life. But we have 2 choices. You can go with your Mom, lie, and risk your life. Or you can stay with me, not worry about lying, AND save your butt. Your choice."
I stared down at my feet as I wrestled with those choices for a solid 3 minutes. After deciding, I then looked up at Darla.
"Let's save my life. When do we start?"
Darla grinned at me. "I think that is a great choice, Sarah." Glancing at her watch, she said, "It's 8:34 right now, so we should start tomorrow so we can get some good rest. Today has been pretty eventful, so we should get as much sleep as we can."
