*Prologue*
"You know we can't do this,"
I knew what was happening wasn't right. I knew that.
But I couldn't stay away.
"We've done this before. What's the big deal know?"
His eyes meet mine, holding a stare for just a moment, a moment long enough to give me everything I've ever needed.
"I'm not talking about sex, Norman, I'm talking about going public. Yes, I love you, and yes I wanna be with you, I want to be with you so bad it tears me apart, but Christ's sake, Norman, I'm a child! I'm two years older than your son. Mingus, you remember him? What's he going to say? What is anyone going to say?"
He paused, holding in a breath of air. I prayed silently to myself that he'd just give up. It would be so much easier to just give up. To tell me to get everything and leave, never talk to him again, but he didn't. He did the exact opposite.
He wrapped his arms around my waist, tucking his face into the crook of my neck.
"We'll make it work."
He kissed my forehead so tenderly.
"I promise."
