After that night, Norman and I decided to only see each other once in a while. Late at night or early in the morning. When we really needed it. Mingus didn't talk much to either of us. He had moved back in with his mom, telling her that Norman was becoming to busy and that he was never home. Which worked, considering she didn't ask any questions.
To make Mingus believe that we had stopped seeing each other Norman found a girlfriend, someone who was actually his age. Some bitch that thought she was better than everyone. He could have picked anyone in the United States of America and he picked the most hateful bitch there is.
And the more time they spent together, the more attached he got. They posted pictures together, went out on public, he even brought her to the office every now and then. I hated it. I hated her.
I was starting to hate him, too.
To get my mind off some things, I decided to have some of my girlfriends up for a very needed vacation. I wished it could have been more than a weekend, but unfortunately, the happiness could only last for so long.
Before I knew it, we were all sitting in my living room taking shots and laughing about anything and everything. I miss them, more than I realize. Maybe I should move back home, that doesn't sound like a bad idea, considering I could make the same amount of money working at the bookstore there in my old town. I wouldn't be leaving anything behind. Mingus hates me, Norman is happy in his relationship with that bitch, my job is just a job, I can find another one.
"So, Gen," Emma looked at me, raising an eyebrow and giving me an devilish grin. "Is he good in bed?" My mouth dropped open and everyone started laughing. "What? I just wanna know. I mean, he is gorgeous. He could bend me over any day."
"I'm not drunk enough to talk about this." I said, flipping my head back, feeling the liquor warm my insides.
"Come on, don't be a baby! Just because you're the youngest doesn't mean you have to act like it." Elena was right. It was always Emma, Elena, Kathrine, and me. Emma being oldest, me being youngest. I never acted like the baby, though. If it was anyone, it was Emma. Being a twenty-one year old doesn't matter if you're sixteen at heart.
"Please, you've always been the horny one and you just want to know all the dirty little secrets." I say with a wink.
"You're right," She nods in agreement. "And since you're always right, just tell me already so I can have the fantasy!"
"Fine!" I shouted with laughter. I took another shot and began to speak. "He is so great in bed that it's scary. The way he knows where to touch at just the right moment amazes me every time. It's like he knows what I'm thinking. If I'm thinking about him kissing me, he does it. Or if I'm thinking about him going deeper, or faster, he does it. Like I said, its scary how he knows what you want at the exact minute you want it." The thoughts of him above me made my stomach do flips. "And it wasn't just about the sex, either, it was about him, about us. He's got this thing about him, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the way he looks at me, like he's admiring me. He just..he makes you fall in love with him."
"I think that's sweet. It's like you two are one person." Katherine cut in, a big smile painted on her face. Katherine and I were always alike. We were never the type of people to mess around with tons of guys or go to all the parties. We were just..us.
"Thank you, Katherine. At least there's one adult here." She gave me a wink and turned her attention to her phone.
There were a few moments of silence before my phone started ringing. I looked at the caller I.D. seeing it was Mingus. My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. It's been exactly one week and three days since he walked out, ignoring every call and text.
"Hello?"
"Hey, uh I was wondering if you wanted to meet up. Talk about what's been going on? I miss having you to lean on and I want you back."
"Mingus, I would absolutely love too, but I have company all weekend. I hate to say no, really, but I can't I'm sorry. But, I'm all yours Monday?"
"Sounds great. Meet me at the park?"
"Sure!"
"Well, goodnight G."
"Goodnight Mingus."
I hated telling Mingus no. Considering everything that happened. But, I was more than happy about having my bestfriend back.
"So you fucked the son, too? Oh god, Genevieve, and to think I was the town slut." She laughs hard, throwing her head back and holding her stomach. "If people back home new about you now. Little miss goody-goody fucking someone her daddy's age and his son."
"Oh my god, come on. In my defense, I fucked Mingus way before I fucked Norman." I laugh with her. "But really, if getting Mingus back as a friend means I have to stop messing with Norman, then I will. Sneaking around was fun for a little while, but it's not fair, ya know? Like, I want to post cute little pictures with someone, I want to go out and be a couple, I want to show people how great the person I'm in love with really is, and I can't do that with Norman. Ever."
"Are you really in love with him, or are you just in love with the thought of being in love with him?" Katherine's question circling my mind. "You've only ever loved one person, G, and when that ended, a piece of you died. Do you really want that again? If you know you can't have an open life with him, then why want one?"
"Yeah, I agree with Katherine," Emma nods, a small frown appearing on her lips. "I'm sorry to bring up the past, but you and Jesse were something else, when you two broke up, you died, Genevieve, you haven't been the same since. We didn't hear from you for weeks, months even, I don't want that happening to you again. I don't know if I'll be able to sit back and watch you go through that again."
"I know, I'll make something work. Don't worry about me getting hurt. If you guys are right, and I end up having my heart broken, I'll get over it. I'm a bog girl now, not like I used to be. This time it's my fault, no one else's. I'll be okay."
