Chapter 42: Surprise

I could hear the band playing as I approached the reception.

I smiled to myself as I saw Lindsey and Joe dancing, obviously in love.

I saw her dad standing by the bar, so I figured I would say hi.

"Hey Mike" I said, waving.

Lindsey's dad insisted I call him by his first name. I was still getting used to it.

He smiled, and hugged me lightly.

"Hannah! I haven't seen you in some time! How are you?!" He asked.

I laughed. "I'm okay...life's going good. How are you?!"

He smiled. "I'm doing pretty well...I meant to ask, is it true??" He whispered.

"Is what true?" I replied.

"That you're dating Steven Tyler!!?" Her dad exclaimed.

I laughed, feeling myself starting to blush.

"Yeah, it's true..."

Her dad laughed. "Well Hannah, aren't you smitten! Lindsey seems to be too." He said, gesturing to where Joe and Lindsey were still dancing.

"Yeah, they are in love." I sighed.

Her dad looked back at me questionly.

"What's wrong?" He asked me.

"Nothing..nothing at all.." I said, not meeting his eyes.

Her dad looked at me with suspicion in his eyes.

He could always see right through me. When Lindsey and I would do something bad when we were little, he would always know we were lying. Nothing's changed.

I sighed, chuckling a little. "It's Steven..he hasn't proposed yet..I'm starting to doubt..that he loves me.."

Her dad laughed. "Hannah, stop. It's clear he does. I'll tell you something I always told Lindsey: Expect the unexpected."

I smiled. "That's good advice. Thanks."

Just then, I heard the microphone snap on.

I guess it was time for the speeches. I better find a seat.

As I made my way to the bridal table to my seat, I glanced around, looking for Steven.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to say a few words."

My eyes shot to the stage.

I found him.
