XXXIII.| missing in action

"Baby I'm home." Darryl yelled.

He walked in the room and Jade wasn't in the bed and Tia wasn't either.

"Jade." He yelled again.

"I'm in the shower." She yelled back.

That was close.

He walked into the bathroom and opened the shower curtain to make sure she was really there.

"Hey girl." He laughed.

"Hey baby." She kissed him.

"Did I take long?" He asked.

"Yes. I gotta get to work now" she sighed.

"Damn."he sighed.

"That's too bad, I knew exactly what I wanted to do too."she smirked.

"What time do you get off?"he asked.

"9:30, I'll be back soon."she smiled.

She got out of the shower and put on her work uniform.

"You want me to take you, of you gonna drive?"Darryl asked.

"Take me. I don't want to drive that late."she said.

"Alright,come on."he grabbed his keys.

She put on her shoes and they walked out of the door.

"You talked to your pops?"Darryl asked.

"Not since my birthday. I have to put some more money on his phone card."she said.

"I'll do it after I drop you off. He got commissary?"he asked.

"Probably, but it wouldn't hurt to give him a little more. You know he likes to eat."she laughed.

"Can I ask you a question?"he asked.

"Yeah. What's up?"Jade asked.

"Do you remember your momma?"he asked.

"Not really. I remember what she looks like though. Do you?"she asked.

"Oh yeah I remember her. I think I was 10 or 11 when she died."Darryl said.

"Can you tell me about her?"Jade asked.

"Well of course, you look just like her. She was a lil bigger though. She would always fight Al. They would always fight. She was a nice lady though, to the kids. She didn't take no shit either."he laughed.

"You not like her though."Darryl said.

"I used to be. When I was with Kevin."she sighed and her eyes welled up with tears.

"Who told you that?"he stopped the car and turned to face her.

"My granny. She told me that if I didn't slow down I would be dead like my mama. I almost was Kevin tried to kill me."she sniffled.

"Calm down. I won't let anything happen to you. Aight?"he kissed her.

"Anybody who wanna hurt you gotta deal with me."he said.

"Okay. I love you." She kissed his cheek.

"I love you too. Have a good day at work. I'll be here at 9:00"he blew her a kiss.

Jade dragged into work today. For some odd reason, she had a bad feeling. She didn't want to be here.

"Hi Mary."She sighed putting in her time card.

"Off your vacation?"Mary asked.

"Unfortunately."Jade sighed.
