Belle sat intently and focused as the cadets were putting a strategy together and Levi was doing a diagram on the chalkboard to show a demonstration. The Survey Corps had an upcoming expedition as they had been alerted on titans out on an open field near the forest of giant trees.
As she sat, she saw Kristof watching everything that unfolded, his eyes focusing on Commander Erwin.
'What's with Kristof? He seems to be so focused on the plan but his eyes are locked onto Erwin. What could this possibly be?'
Over the course of a few weeks, Kristof had been sneaking and leaving gifts in the commander's office. Belle wanted to know the reason why but decided not to push the issue.
As their superiors droned on and on, they both focused on the strategy and whose squad they were going to be put into. Belle was put in Lorenzo's squad alongside Kristof, Iona, Lee, Christa, Ymir and Sasha. She got on with Lorenzo pretty well over the past few weeks so she was willing to be put in his squad and she would help out in any way she can.
Once the formation planning was complete and the cadets were dismissed, Belle began to walk down the hallway to the mess hall. She couldn't help but feel concerned, not just for how Kristof was feeling but about her own sentiments that she tried keeping locked away. Sometimes people have the courage to confess their love to that someone, sometimes they are too timid to admit it out of fear of rejection and could result in a broken heart which really hurts. If there was one thing a person learned when it comes to romance, it's the fact that it hurts to be in love. Her train of thought was broken as she felt someone almost colliding with her.
"Oh..je suis désolé, Kristof." Belle piped up, rubbing her arm in a nervous manner. "I didn't see you there."
"No, no, there's no need to apologise." Replied Kristof. "I really need to watch where I'm going." His smile almost faded as he added, "You're worried about the way, I'm acting, right?"
"I'm afraid so..." Answered Belle. "I understand if you don't want to tell me. I'll just..."
"No, no, I insist I tell you myself..only in private...so that no one can hear us." Kristof cut her off, taking her hand and leading her down the halls to find somewhere that was private and where nobody would hear them.
"This'll do."
The Irish cadet pulled the brunette into what seemed to be the basement of the HQ.
"Are you sure it's the place no one can hear us?" Asked Belle, feeling even more concerned.
"Yes, that's the place." Answered Kristof, before clearing his throat in preparation for what he was going to say next. "Now, before I tell you my reason, I want you to promise and only promise me, you'll keep this a secret and not mention this to anyone, not to any cadet or any of our superiors."
Belle nodded, sealing her promise to her friend. "Cross my heart, hope to die, your promise is safe with me."
"Alright then..." Kristof nodded back before continuing. "I..I..I am in love with someone in the Survey Corps."
Belle's eyes glistened in happiness. "Oh Kristof, that's so wonderful. So who is it?"
Kristof gulped nervously but quickly composed himself before answering, "Erwin..."
Belle let out a soft quiet gasp. "The commander?"
Kristof nodded. "Yes. It is true. It's the reason, I've been leaving him gifts in his office for the past few weeks. Even during our training, leading up to preparing for our expedition beyond the walls tomorrow, I've been doing my best to impress him and be the best."
Belle gently put a hand on Kristof's shoulder. "Kristof, you've nothing to worry about. There's a chance, you could impress him on the expedition. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
Kristof pulled her into a hug. "Oh, thank you..."
Without any warning, they both heard footsteps. Luckily, they belonged to Armin.
"Oh there you are, you two. Dinner's almost about to start. If you don't hurry soon, Sasha might steal a bite or two."
The two cadets gasped. They knew what Sasha was capable of, when it came to food. That girl had a stomach like a bottomless pit, eating like there's no tomorrow.
"Oh she better not!
